SEMS Golden Eagles Weekly Update
October 1st, 2023
ASB
Club Rush was a HUGE success on Thursday September 28, 2023! Over twenty clubs were represented from dance club, comedy club, card club, environmental club and many more. We will post all of the clubs offered at SEMS on our school web site next week with meeting times and locations. Clubs are a great way for students to make friends feel connected to school, if you have any questions about clubs please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. van Es. Here are some photos from Club Rush:

SEMS Sponsorship Banner Program
The Banner Program is officially up and going again this year. Thank you to all past and current sponsors, as your donations really help our student athletes in more ways than we can tell you.
This year we have two locations, again. The corner of San Elijo Road and Schoolhouse Way is the place that our community gets to see you donations at work. And the drop-off circle is the second, and where our parents get to see your business names up close and personal, on a daily basis.
Donations are $500 and are handled through the SEMS PTO website.

One Book, One San Diego
Our annual Book Club is starting up! This years One Book One San Diego’s selection is "Iveliz Explains It All". This book is written in verse about a middle schooler struggling with mental health while grieving her father and helping her grandmother adjust to the move away from her home in Puerto Rico. The San Marcos Public Library is donating copies for our book club. We will be meeting in the Library every Friday in October during both lunches. Students who are interested are invited to attend our first meeting on 10/6! Although we have a limited number of copies, the book is available in audio and electronic format through Sora!
E-Bike Safety
We received more than the usual amount of concerns from the community regarding unsafe e-bike riding in our community this week. I, myself, witnessed a student 'popping wheelies' in the parking lot at Albertsons after school. While we recognize it is a small portion of our students who are choosing risky behaviors in the community, we are determined to create a safe environment for all students and our community members.
We are currently in discussion with our local police department, district representatives, other schools in our district, and our team here regarding a potential e-bike permitting system. Many of our surrounding districts have used a permit system with success. It would require students to complete a safety class, sign a contract, and display their permit on their bike and helmet. We are working out the details now and want it to be both manageable and educational for our students.
Once plans are finalized, we will communicate them out to you, our SEMS families. We thank you in advance for your partnership.
Lost and Found!
Our lost and found items are growing quickly! We will put them out in the morning in the drop off area to help us identify any missing items! We will be donating the items not picked up at the end of next week.
