Join us for the 2021 ONLINE AMEA CONFERENCE!

The 2021 AMEA Conference will be held ONLINE on January 29 and 30, 2021. The theme of the conference will be "Connecting through Music." We have a wide variety of sessions planned, including keynotes by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser and Elisa Janson Jones. Some of our other amazing presenters include Robert Sheldon, Bob Phillips, Denise Gagne, Andy Beck, Cody Miller Chuck Hulihan, and Emily Schwartz. There will also be opportunities to visit vendors through our virtual exhibition hall, as well as virtual performances by musicians from the Navy Band Southwest, and of course the presentation of our 2021 AMEA Hall of Fame Awards, including the Music Educator of the Year. There will be chat rooms available for directors throughout the conference, as well as a "Happy Hour" at the end of the day on Friday, hosted by our constituent organizations so you can still meet up with your colleagues. It's going to be a blast, so don't miss it! Cost for the conference is $80 for regular registration, and $40 for collegiate/retired registration. What a deal!

Important Info Regarding Regional Auditions

It has been determined by the AMEA Board and in conjunction with the Region Governors to extend the Audition Registration and Upload Process. This is being done to hopefully allow time for schools to get back to a place where students who need to record their audition at school will be able to do so. (especially for percussion students).

The new dates are:

  • Registration Window is still open until January 22
  • Audition Window: February 1 - February 6. (will let you know if this opens earlier)
  • Adjudication Window: February 7 – February 13.
  • Results Available: February 16
  • Deadline For OurVirtualEnsemble Recording: March 5 (individual student part)
  • Virtual Regional Festival: March 20

Confirmation emails will be sent to all students at 8:00p.m. today. The email will be sent to the student email address you used when registering. The email will include some initial information regarding the audition process and to confirm that they are able to receive emails from OpusEvent.

The email will be from: no-reply@opusevent.com

Please check with your student(s) and verify that they received the email. If the student does not receive the email after checking spam and junk folders, please email me. I can always change their email address in the system and resend.

Audition links will be sent to the student email on January 28, 2021. The link will not work until the audition upload window is open on February 1, 2021. The link is unique to each student. If you used your email for all students then you would need to send each student their link.

Additional emails will be sent this week with audition tips and training information.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: Live recording (including sight reading ) requires a supported browser. Currently OpusEvent supports Chrome in Windows and Safari or Chrome in MacOS. Firefox, Edge, and mobile devices are not supported. If your student is recording from home, please share this information with them.

Choral Regional Auditions - Sight Reading Change

The sight reading for choral regional auditions this year will consist only of 3 single lines. There will be no block and contrapuntal sight reading.

It has been determined by the AMEA Board to extend the S & E Registration and Upload Process. This is being done to hopefully allow time for schools to get back to a place where students who need to record their performance at school will be able to do so. (especially for percussion students).

  • Submission Window: January 14 – February 6, 2021
  • Adjudication Window: February 8 – February 27, 2021

  • Showcase As Part Of The All-Regional Virtual Festival: March 20, 2021

Confirmation emails will be sent to all students at 8:00p.m. today. The email will be sent to the student email address you used when registering. The email will include some initial information regarding the performance process and to confirm that they are able to receive emails from OpusEvent.

Performance links will be sent to the student email on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. The link will not work until the performance upload window is open on January 14, 2021. The link is unique to each student. If you used your email for all students then you would need to send each student their link.

  • Performance uploads are done directly through the OpusEvent site.
  • Performances will take place during a scheduled window of time. Student/Ensembles will not have individual scheduled times. Performances can be done from home, or you can have them perform from school.
  • Video pre-recorded ensemble performances uploads will be available or your students can perform a live recording.
  • Students will also need to upload a copy of the music being performed.
  • OpusEvent allows the student/ensemble to "practice" their performance as many times as they want to make sure the mic levels are correct, and the student/ensemble is comfortable with the process. Once the student/ensemble selects to record their performance, they will have one chance to record and submit. Thus making it similar to the live in person performance event.
  • Students will receive feedback from the adjudicator.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: Live recording requires a supported browser. Currently OpusEvent supports Chrome in Windows and Safari or Chrome in MacOS. Firefox, Edge, and mobile devices are not supported. If your student is recording from home, please share this information with them.
