Factors Affecting Participation

Gender
Gender can affect the way people take part in sport because;
- Females are a lot more flexible and smaller than men and carry a lot more fat.
- But males have a lot more strength and stamina.
Age
Age can affect sport when your young and old. When your younger it can you don't have as much strength and the skills that you have when you get older. But as you get older you start to lose energy, flexibility, speed and stamina.
Disability
A lot more sports now have been changed so that people with a disability are able to participate. Sports such as Basketball, Athletics, Swimming are sports which have been changed to suit people with disabilities but some can't be changed.
Physique
Weight, Shape and size can affect sport, there a three main types;
- Ectomorph: Tall and skinny, you would be more likely to do sports such as long distance running and basketball.
- Endomorph: Pear Shaped, this would be more likely to be for weight lifting.
- Mesomorph: Muscular, sports such as rugby would be more suited for this type.
Risk and Challenge
Risk: The risk of danger, loss or harm.
Challenge: Test of your ability
