Welcome!
It's my pleasure to keep you informed of Xavier High School's Library Media Center and all that happens within this space. In this newsletter, you will find information on such items as book features and displays, XTrAs, Iowa High School Battle of the Books, the freshmen field trip to the Cedar Rapids Public Library, and our new portable green screen. I plan to keep you updated once a quarter during the school year. Feel free to follow me on Twitter @MrsMarshallLMC for daily information.
Freshmen Field Trip to CRPL
Book Displays
October's book display featured spooky, suspenseful, thrilling, and mysterious books for readers looking for a scare this month.
Featured Books
Refugee by Alan Gratz
ISABEL is a Cuban girl in 1994. With riots and unrest plaguing her country, she and her family set out on a raft, hoping to find safety in America . . .
MAHMOUD is a Syrian boy in 2015. With his homeland torn apart by violence and destruction, he and his family begin a long trek toward Europe . . .
All three kids go on harrowing journeys in search of refuge. All will face unimaginable dangers -- from drownings to bombings to betrayals. But there is always the hope of tomorrow. And although Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud are separated by continents and decades, their stories will tie together in the end."
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
Enter Mia Warren -- an enigmatic artist and single mother -- who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community."
Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts."
