Loving Every Minute of Learning!
Dodson’s Dish- 9-10-15
We are so fortunate that Frisco ISD believes in schools working as a Professional Learning Community. The definition of PLC- an ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve. Professional learning communities operate under the assumption that the key to improved learning for students is continuous job-embedded learning for educators.
Your next question may be, how does this impact Isbell students?
While students are engaged in fine arts during this time, specific grade level teachers are focusing on student data and personalizing education for each individual student. Grade levels meet to discuss how students are performing and how to either add growth to a student or how to remediate deficiencies. This time during a teacher's day requires a lot of brain power. After teachers collaborate with each other, they are able to answer these four critical questions. 1. What do we expect our students to learn? 2. How will we know when they have learned it? 3. How will we respond when they don’t learn? 4. How will we respond when they already know it? Be proud of your child’s teacher for taking the time to know each child by name and need, and take action.

District News
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeremy Lyon, along with a member of the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees, will be hosting coffee talks throughout the school year at each of the FISD high schools.
The first one is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, from 8-9 a.m. in the Liberty HS library. All parents are invited, however, as each one is held, we will draw more attention to it among the families within the feeder pattern of that particular high school. There is no agenda or topic, just a time for informal conversation with district leaders. Coffee will be provided.
Enjoy your weekend. There are a lot of great college games and our Cowboys are ready to beat the Giants!

Why should I join the PTA?
1. Local PTAs support your child’s campus by providing additional funds for student materials.
2. Local PTAs advocate for students in Austin through the school year. They also advocate for students on Rally Day in Austin. This day has been very successful in the past to have legislatures reconsider state testing, end of year exams at the high school level, and pre-kindergarten to name a few.
3. PTA provides answers to questions regarding public schools that many parents need additional information about.
Isbell Elementary is fortunate to have a PTA that believes in children and teachers and wants to make an impact on their future. Please reach out to a PTA Board member if you have any additional questions. They are more than happy to help.
Don’t forget to join so your family name will be on the tree.

September 11
HB 1501 requires a moment of silence on 9/11:
On September 11, each year the date falls on a school day, public schools will invoke one minute of silence at the beginning of the school day in observance of the events that took place on September 11, 2001. The instructor in each class will make a statement referencing the memory of those who died that day, prior to the period of silence. Adds Tex. Educ. Code § 25.0821.
There will not be discussion held for K and 1 and there may be a brief discussion for 2-5. The following message will be read at GMI, following a moment of silence:
Today is Patriot Day in the United States and First Responders Day in Texas, a day to honor the lives and the memory of those who died in the September 11, 2001, attacks on our nation and those first responders who committed acts of great bravery during the events of that day.
As we prepare to observe our moment of silence at this time, let us remember and honor the men and women who lost their lives 14 years ago– let’s also remember those heroes who courageously worked to save the lives of others, and let us not forget those who were left behind.
Additional ways to show honor and patriotism could include inviting students and staff to wear red, white and blue on September 11th and placing flags outside the campus.
