The Grizzly Growl
May 2021
From the Bear Den
Hello Grizzly Families!
Can you see it? The light at the end of the tunnel? It's there!
We are excited to see some of the Governor's restrictions being lifted so we can celebrate our Senior events, Junior rings, academic awards, and music and drama productions again. Be sure to follow our social media and read Schoology and Synergy updates to stay in-the-know about upcoming events.
The marking period ends May 17, so please encourage your child to check for missing assignments and to take advantage of our Learning Labs if they need extra help. The schedule for Learning Labs is listed below.
May and June are always packed with testing: SOL, CTE, AP. Please make sure your child is here on the assigned days to avoid last-minute make-up testing.
Thank you for recognizing our exceptional Grassfield teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. Their dedication and innovation in teaching and connecting with our Grizzlies has been nothing short of awe-inspiring.
It's a great time to be a Grizzly! Be safe out there! And as always; Go, Grizzlies!
Sincerely,
Mr. Michael Perez

Semester 2 SOL Testing
SOL Fridays
May 14-Reading
May 21-Social Studies
May 28-Science
June 4-Math
The Virginia Department of Education has determined that SOL testing will still take place during semester 2. Grassfield High School has determined that the safest and most efficient way to administer the required SOL tests is to test on the Friday Online Student Support Days. On those days, Option 1 AND Option 2 students will need to report to the building to test. Students may provide their own transportation or ride the bus assigned to their route (even if they are Option 2 students). Additionally, we will offer school breakfast and lunch to any student coming to test.
Students should arrive to school between 8:40 a.m and 8:55 a.m.. Students with their own transportation will be able to leave at the end of the test session. Students who ride the bus will remain at school with supervision until the end of the school day and then ride the bus home.
Students who will need to take an SOL will be contacted by their teachers with specific details for their class. Please contact the School Counseling Department with any questions or concerns.
Students should bring:
A CPS Chromebook (fully charged), if they have been assigned one. A Chromebook will be provided for any student without one.
Headphones
Mask
Thank you for your understanding.
Grassfield High School Theatre Company proudly presents William Shakespeare's timeless classic "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with a bit of a beachy flair inspired by the TV show "Outer Banks".
June 1, 2, and 3
Tickets are $5.00 per person or $20.00 for a pod.
BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS! It's outdoor theatre :)
How will this work, you ask?
- Sign up here to reserve your "pod" for a performance. This pod will seat up to 5 people. Pods should contain people from their own household.
- Masking will still be a requirement inside your pod.
- The show is outside! So because of the possibility of bad weather, tickets/pods can be reserved beforehand but must be purchased on the day of the performance. Exact change and checks preferred.
- There will be no intermission.
- There will be no concessions sold.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the show!
If you have any questions, please email Laura Agudelo at laura.agudelo@cpschools.com

Class of 2021 and 2022 ACCESS College Support
Hello Class of 2021 and 2022!
Seniors
All the hard work you put into applications and the college process has come to fruition! CONGRATULATIONS on graduation and moving towards the next stage of your lives. It's been my pleasure to work with you over the past 2 years. I wish each of you the very best in college and beyond!
If you aren't happy with your college options or haven't made fall plans-- I am happy to help. Please reach out to me (mmoorhouse@accesscollege.org)! There are still options available, and it's not too late to take charge of your future and educational opportunities.
Juniors:
It's time to set up your Common App account and begin your college applications! Even if you're still researching and compiling your college list, you can be completing demographic and family information, previous coursework, activities, and be working on your personal statement. While supplemental essay prompts for individual colleges won't be finalized until August 1st, the more you do before senior year, the easier your life will be in the fall (trust me on this).
Are you working on your 650-word personal statement? Mrs. Moorhouse has great tools for brainstorming and for getting started. Sign up for a 1-1 counseling session at https://calendly.com/accesscollege/ghs-1-1
