NBC10 Sunrise Shout-out

NBC10 Sunrise contacted me this week and asked that we video tape students doing a "shout-out" for channel 10 morning news. Mrs. Ward and I decided to ask the entire Green Screen Team to create the video. They did an amazing job. It will air this Monday morning during the 6am newscast. Set your DVRs, these students are representing Hope Valley School. They were so adorable. I will share all the videos we took next week but don't want to ruin the surprise. Below is one picture I took of the kids cheering.

Great Opportunity for Hope Valley Students

Attention parents of HVES aspiring actors! The Chariho High School Theatre Company is currently rehearsing for their bi-annual production of A Christmas Carol and they are in need of a Tiny Tim! Auditions for the role of Tiny Tim are being held October 2nd at 5:30pm in the Chariho Middle School auditorium. Readings will be from the script, so nothing needs to be prepared ahead of time. Show dates are December 6th, 7th, and 8th. If you have any questions, please contact director Rebecca Burns at rebecca.burns@chariho.k12.ri.us.

After School Drama Club

This week I met with the RI Youth Theater (RIYT) Company and we are going to do another After School Drama Club in February and March. The RIYT will be working with two CHS students to write the play/musical soon. We are very excited to bring this opportunity to our students. It was such a huge hit last year. Many more details will come after the winter break. Stay tuned. In the meantime, check out the great Tiny Tim opportunity above.

Dot Day

September 19, 2019 was International Dot Day and our students worked hard to create their own dot. Our dot project is based on the school-wide book called The Dot by Peter Reynolds. Take a look at some of the pictures from yesterday. Thank you to our amazing staff for making this such a successful day.

Summer Reading Information

Hope Valley School was so proud of our summer readers who stayed in great reading shape over the summer months! We celebrated them on Tuesday with a special reading session on the front lawn of the school. Follow the link below for pictures of the children. Way to go readers!

Summer Math Certificates

Students who completed the summer math packets all received a math certificate award and special pencil for their work on the packet. Congratulations to those who took the initiative to complete the math packet during the summer. Mr. G is proud of you.

Summer Screen Time Challenge Extra Recess

What great way to reward the students who successfully completed the August screen time challenge. You can view the pictures of our extra recess. Kids had a blast.

Arriving to School

K-4 Parents - When dropping off your child between 8:25-8:35, only three cars at a time are allowed to drop off children by the Kindergarten door. If there are cars waiting, please be sure you are in in the stacking lane along the curb. This is imperative because buses start rolling in around 8:20 and they need a clear path to the back of the school. Also, to make this run as efficiently as possible, your child should be able to unbuckle and leave the car on their own. If they are young you should practice this with your child. It is a STOP - DROP - GO system.

PreK Parents - Arrival time is AFTER the K-4 drop off. That means you shouldn’t arrive BEFORE8:35 because it is causing confusion for K-4 parents and there is congestion for buses and mini-buses. Therefore, after 8:35, preschool parents can wait in the stacking lane. Only 4 cars at a time in the stacking lane; otherwise, please wait along the side of Thelma Drive until there is room to move into the stacking lane. At 8:45, we start to allow cars to drive behind the school. Safety is top priority so I appreciate your assistance with this matter. If it does not improve, I will have to revisit the entire pre-school drop off system which will not be as easy as it is currently. Thank you.

Dismissal Procedures

Dismissal for K-4 parent pick ups start at 3:20. Bus dismissal is at 3:25. For parents picking up students, the procedure is for parents to wait outside the library door until a staff member opens the door to let parents in. The end of the day is very hectic and we cannot have people buzz in at the main office to sign out their child to bypass the line. It is also a safety concern. However, if you need to pick up your child early, you can certainly go to the main office to sign them out but as a reminder it will count as an early dismissal unless there is a medical note. Thanks for your assistance on this important matter.

Flu Clinic...Mark Your Calendars

Has your family gotten the flu shot? There will be a flu clinic held at Hope Valley School on Thursday, October from 4:00-6:30 pm. All adults and children, age 3 and older, are welcome to attend the clinic and get vaccinated at no out-of-pocket cost.

Reminder: the flu is a serious, sometimes deadly disease. It is also highly contagious. Catching the flu means missing days of work and school, and possibly being hospitalized. Don’t take the risk – protect yourself and your family by getting the flu shot.

If you have any questions, please call the RIDOH information line @ 401-222-5960. Thank you.
