Stay Focused, Stay Engaged

Hey Gators. Happy Friday!

Quarter 3 classes are well underway and it's more important than ever to regularly be checking StudentVue and ParentVue for grades and attendance. Keeping up with all of your course work and submitting all of your assignments is the best way to ensure success in your classes. Another way to ensure success is to actively engage in your classes. Using the chat to ask and respond to questions, unmuting and verbally asking or responding to a question, and completing the daily formative assessments are just some of the ways scholars engage in the coursework.

As always, if you have any questions or need support in a class, don't hesitate to reach out to your teacher!

Have a wonderful 3-day weekend and remember the words of a former Gator, Dom Cooks-

"It is, and always is, a great day to be a Gator! Yitadee!!!"

February is Black History Month

Throughout the month of February, our scholars that are a part of GUARD (Gators United Against Racism and Discrimination) have been planning and implementing schoolwide lessons during SEL/CCR time throughout this month.

Thank you to our members of GUARD for stepping up and leading this work! We are looking forward to a stronger partnership and leading together to become an antiracist school.

If you are interested in hearing more about the anti-racist work including an overview of staff professional development, please come to our Family Webinars to hear those updates. There will be another Family Webinar in a couple of weeks. Look for the announcement to go out the week before and the link to be shared the day of.

Registration Process Begins Next Week in SEL/CCR

The start of second semester is when planning for the next school year begins! The process for scholars to choose their classes for next year will start next week. There are several steps in the process. It is important that scholars participate fully in the lessons happening in SEL/CCR.

Please keep in mind that if you have not passed all of your courses in previous semesters, your schedule options will be more limited.

SAT's for Juniors and Seniors

Similar to other districts in the area, FWPS is planning for scheduling in-person SAT testing dates in a safe and socially distanced way. The CollegeBoard who we schedule SAT testing with is allowing for an in-person testing option only. The testing dates are tentatively scheduled for late March and early April.

Here are the advantages of taking the SAT:
• SAT is one pathway that can support on-time high school graduation
• Some colleges and universities require SAT scores for admission applications
• It is of no cost to FWPS students who take it during the school day at FWPS

It’s important that you complete this survey by Monday, Feb. 15, 5:00 p.m. if you want your child to take the SAT test: We need this information so that we can secure a test for your child.

This information will help FWPS with finalizing the dates, times, locations and transportation options.

Local Rotary Scholarship Opportunity for Seniors

The Rotary Club of Federal Way Scholarship applications are due no later than March 5, 2021 at 11:59pm PT. The application window will close at that time.

The Rotary Club of Federal Way awards scholarships based on four (4) criteria: 1) financial need, 2) academic performance, 3) community service and 4) leadership.

If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, more information and the application can be found at:

"I" Contracts

I contracts went home with report cards this week. If your scholar received an I contract, it is not necessary to return a copy with your signatures. You may keep the copy for your reference.

If you have an I contract (an incomplete grade contract), please make sure that the work is completed and submitted to your teacher so your grade can be updated.

Sports Update

Federal Way Public Schools are excited to announce a safe return to in-person athletic activities. There will be three Parent information meeting opportunities that will offer details about our Safe Return to In-Person Athletics including optional pre-season conditioning. The presentation provides protocols for athletics that have been developed in conjunction with our Hybrid for Learning Playbook.
