EMS S2 Week 15 Announcements
The Know-whats and Know-hows at Estacada Middle School
Progress Reports: Sending Again on 5/18
This Friday we will be sending out progress reports (every two weeks). We want students to be earning proficiency indicators of 3. If your student has indicators "M," "1," or "2," please work with your student's teachers to ask what your student needs to show in order to earn a "3" or a "4." Also, you will want to speak with your student about how they are using their time in Advisory. There are two days each week in which students can work with teachers to clarify concepts, ask for more detail, or advocate for their work. Lastly, below, you will see an image of the Characteristics of a Successful Learner Rubric. Your student will be measured by this rubric, too, at the end of the year. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
STEM Night (Mark Your Calendars!)
Join us - you and your student - on the evening of May 31 at 6:00pm to promote STEM thinking as a family and to celebrate our students' STEM knowledge. We will have a frog and large salamander dissection (a family dissection) as well as a gallery preview of our students' Inquiry Projects. More information to come; but, plan on attending today! Go Tigers!
SBA Nearly Complete
For the next two weeks (or so), we will complete our assessments. Non-opted out students have taken an English/Language Arts assessment and a Math assessment. These results will help measure our programs and will also provide you and your student with information regarding their academic progress, growth, strengths and weaknesses. Please reach out to me if you have any questions!
Off-Campus Policy at EMS
Families: please speak with your student about our school's off campus policy. When students arrive to school, they must stay at school for the entirety of the day. This includes arriving by bus and leaving by bus. If your student arrives by bus, they must stay on campus. Our students' safety is our priority and if your student is leaving to Big Jim's or Planet Cup of Joe we cannot ensure their safety.
MAP Testing Nearly Complete
Students are nearly complete with their Math and ELA Measurement of Academic Progress testing. This assessment provides us with nationally-normed data about your student: How does your student's reading and Math skills compare to other students with the same age, nationally? What growth has your student made? Please reach out to me if you have any questions about your student's achievement.

Barnes and Noble Supports EMS!
Above, you will see an image of the B&N Bookfair. Join us on Saturday, May 19 from 9:00am to 9:00pm at Barnes and Noble! For every purchase made between these hours, we will be able to earn a percentage of the profits, then buy more books for our library. This includes online purchases, too. Go Tigers!
EMS Track and Field
For the remainder of the Track and Field Season, there are two more meets. Both are for 7th and 8th graders only:
- Thursday, May 17 at Walt Morey Middle School. Students will be released from class at 2:30, the bus will depart from EMS at 2:45, and we will begin 3:45.
- Tuesday, May 22 at Centennial High School. Students will be released from class at 2:15, the bus will depart from EMS at 2:30, and we will begin at 4:00. This meet is a drop only (Families must take students home - plan ahead).
We are proud of our competitors this year. Go Tigers!
School-Wide Assembly
Last Thursday, students gathered in the Main Gym for a school-wide assembly. Why? To improve our school climate and to be together. We are all part of the EMS Tiger family and it is important to laugh, cheer, and be around one another. This last assembly we played a game of BUMP. Congratulations to our 7th Graders for their win! Go Tigers!
