Articles of Confederation Americans Worst Constitution
The Articles of Confederation were the America's first attempt at a government after England. This first Constitution was made to be weak because they did not want another government that could abuse their rights of the people.
Strengths of the Articles of Confederation
Some of the strengths of the Articles of Confederations were, it was a governed nation during the Revolutionary War. It was negotiated from the Treaty of Paris of 1783. It helped with the Land Ordinance of 1785. It also helped with the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 as well.
Weaknesses of The Articles of Confederation
Some of the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation were, they lacked power to enforce laws. They lacked power to levy taxes. They lacked power to control trade among states. Articles of Confederation required all 13 states to vote to make any different changes to the Article.
North West Ordinance- Positives and Negatives
Some of the positives of the North West Ordinance were when a territory or place has 5,000 free adult males, it can have the power to elect it's own legislature. When states had a population of 60,000, they have the power to become a state. The settlers had the same rights and privileges as any other citizen. Last slavery was banned in the territories.
Some of the negatives of the North West Ordinance were the we were taking away the homes of natives and so some of the tribes were trying to start a fight with us.
Shay's Rebellion- Causes and Effects- Positives and Negatives
A cause for Shay's rebellion was congress had no money and so the effect was the Americans started to realize that their government was weak. Another cause was farmers could not pay their debts and taxes and so the effect was the congress called for a convection. The last cause was the since the farmers could not pay their taxes and debts they go thrown in jail. This effect made different people ( for example James Madison ) started to see a need for a strong central government. A positive for the Shay's rebellion was the settler were coming together to create a new constitution. A negative was the government had no money so no body could pay their taxes and debts.
