Pigs As Pets
By Lauren Taylor
How do you take care of a pet pig and what do I need to know about them?
I have a pet pig named pixie, we got her for Christmas. I decided to do this as my Jay Hour project to learn more about my pet pig. Pigs are one of the smartest animals in the world, and are really clean. The average pig can live to be around 20 years old, and can grow to be any size, depending on how much you feed them.

Everything my Pig May Need
Pigs are coming more popular, but people don't know what they are getting into when adopting a pet pig. Many celebrities have has pet pigs now. Pigs can be a great pet but you need to know how to take care of them.Pigs are intelligent and can make great pets, they are easily trained. They need to have many activities and distractions or they can become easily bored and destructive. Since pigs are so smart they can learn to open the fridge, cabinets, and flip over wastebaskets. They also like to "root," which is basically exploring with their snouts. They can destroy things with their strong snouts, you should make an area just fro the pig to root. Pigs can live a long time so you need to be able to care for them however long they live. Potbellied pigs are great pets, but require much work.
Pigs Relation To Humans
Pigs and humans share a number of traits, for example we both have hairless skin, light colored eyes, protruding noses and heavy eyelashes. Pig skin tissues and heart valves can be used in medicine because of their relation to humans. We are both mammals that gain weight easily.
Are Pigs as Smart as they say?
Pigs are the smartest animals in the world along with chimpanzees and dolphins, they can learn new tricks easily and fast. Pigs also can learn to get up and down from places and learn to open things. Although pigs are intelligent they will soon become very curious and playful so you need to keep them company and play with them.

Does a Teacup Pig Make a Good Pet? | Small Pets
Teacup Pigs?
A teacup pig is not an actual breed of pig. It is a nickname for smaller potbellied pigs. The question is how are they smaller? Breeders have thought of the idea of taking to piglet away from it's mom right when it's born. This way the piglet can't get key nutrients from it's mom ad won't grow in the proper ways, which could result to a shorter life for your pet pig. When buying a teacup pig most people think it will stay small forever. That's not the truth, or at least not all of it. Most breeders also have been telling buyers to feed the pig less, without the buyers knowing. So basically you are told to starve your pig which may also lead to a shorter life. In general if you are really wanting a pet pig you should know what you're getting into and what really will happen in a few years when your pigs fully grown.
