Internet Safety

NYS Trooper Senior Investigator DeWayne Bellageon gave internet safety presentation to grades 3-4 and 5-6 on February 7th. The presentations focused on how to be internet safety smart, avoid risky behaviors online and protect privacy and personal information. There was also discussion on Cyberbullying. One of the best tips given to the students was for them to write all of their device passwords down, put it in an envelope and give it to their parents to be placed in a secure location. This is done so that if anything happens to a child (missing, run away, etc...) the police are able to access their technology quickly rather than taking days to get into the device which may hold valuable clues.

Prekindergarten Olympics

Mrs. Hubert's pre-kindergarten class spent some time learning about the Olympics and celebrating the fact that Massena had their very own Olympian, Jonny Gustafson, competing this year. Mrs. Hubert's class learned that the Winter Olympic Games is a major international multi-sport event held once every four years for sports practiced on snow and ice. The children made their own Olympic torch with their handprint representing the flame.

Camp Jefferson

Jefferson 6th Graders were on a fictional field trip in Iceland when we came across some deer. We tried to avoid them and our bus slid on reindeer droppings! We crashed and were stuck in the middle of Iceland in the winter. We managed to pick a spot to set up a camp until spring when help can arrive. We created a form of government and chose a renewable energy source to last us for the rest of winter! These are our dioramas of what Camp Jefferson would look like.

Next Week's Character Strength- Love

Hello Jefferson Jaguar Families!

For the week of February 13-19, we will be focusing on the character strength of love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.

The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the others' needs ahead of their own. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. You miss that person when they are not around.

On a group level, love is vital for the wellbeing of society. The world is endlessly interconnected. We are all dependent upon each other for survival and happiness. Love produces positive feelings, which help negate loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we cannot form strong relationships with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love is a dangerous world.

To practice and encourage the character strength of love with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Have a wonderful week!
