A Peek at the Week Ahead

The Best Thing I Saw This Week

I met a new student Monday who will be attending our school. He will be in fourth grade and his name is Alex. I met them at the front door and introduced myself to them. As I looked at Alex, he was staring up at the butterflies in our lobby. He said, "Wow! This is a lot of butterflies!" We began to walk passing the house mascots and into the main lobby. When I looked at Alex, his face was glowing! He began saying, "This is great!" "How awesome!" and continued this throughout our visit. He was so excited about coming to our school and just amazed at the way our school is decorated. When he left, I was so happy because I know our kids feel that same way. It was the best feeling to know we are making our school a place where kids want to be!

My Reading Life

I am finishing up From Striving to Thriving. I just read about interactive read-alouds. As educators, we know the importance of reading aloud to children. During the interactive read aloud, you read aloud to students stopping and modeling your thinking about the story as you go. This shows students how proficient readers infer, question, synthesize, etc., when reading. After you have modeled this several times, you have your students do the same with partners as you read to them. As you read to your students, you stop for them to turn and talk with their partners. They jot down their thinking and then you talk with them making sure they are on the right track. Comprehension is so difficult for many, but doing this daily would increase our students ability to comprehend. In addition to the interactive read-aloud, we should also have "Sheer Joy" read alouds each day.I don't know about you, but I want to make sure the read aloud time is established and routine for our kids. How about you? What are you reading?

Welcome Back!

Well, this is it! The last Sunday before going back to work. Can you believe how fast the summer went by?!? It is crazy how time flies.

I am super excited about this school year! I know that we are in store for an amazing year. Do you know why? It is because we have each other to lean on, learn from, grow closer to, and partner with. We are all different, but appreciating each other's differences, showing grace when we all need it, and loving one another is what sets us apart. :-)

As you return this week, know that you are valued, appreciated, and supported. We are a team. As a team, everyone one of us must give 100%. No exceptions. It is for our kids. They know when we are not giving 100% and we can't let that happen.

I know that this week you will at times feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and stressed. In these times, I want you to breathe and remember that everything will get done, and we will be ready. You feel this way because are giving 100% and being amazing in this profession requires that. Breathe in and know that I am so excited to be able to work alongside you this year. We are "That School" and it is going to show for our kids in 2018-2019!

Parent Calls

We will be placing parent phone numbers in your boxes tomorrow. Please make sure you have called your parents prior to Thursday to introduce yourself and let them tell you about their child. This information helps so much as you work to build relationships with your children. Please know that we have made some changes to rosters as we have new students enrolling. This will happen a lot this week, so keep in mind that you may have additions and/or deletions from your class. The office will be busy taking care of this, so we will give you an update Wednesday afternoon.

Meet the Teacher

Our school will be the place to be Thursday at 5:30. For those of you without a homeroom, we will be using you to help us with various tasks. I will meet with you prior to Thursday to let you know how you can help.

Our Dress Code

We are going to have "Happy Fridays" each Friday! You are welcome to wear jeans and your house colors/tshirt each Friday. Monday-Thursday, please dress professionally with no shorts and/or short skirts.
