All Aboard: The Blitz Bus @ LTN354
Weekly Memo 2.8.16
Where Great Happens!
PICTURE THIS- 96 students and families decided to wake up and participate in Saturday school at LTN354. The majority of students were car riders. This means parents reserved time out of their weekend to drop off and pick up their children. We thank our parents for making this investment in their child's future. Big Thanks to our Milestone Blitz Coaches and congratulations to Mrs. Whitaker and Mrs. Coleman on leading their first successful session!
Message from our Saturday School program coordinators:
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
What better weekend to kick off our LTN Milestones Blitz than on the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl?! Mrs. Coleman and I would just like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for dedicating your precious weekend time to preparing our students for the GA Milestones.
We had an strong start with 96 students in attendance, many of them who began showing up as early as 7:30 am! This is includes 84% of the A-Team students in attendance, and 68% of the B-Team students in attendance. Mrs. Coleman and I will work to contact those who were no-shows and allow students on the waiting list to fill any empty slots for the rest of our sessions.
The students were pumped up after the intro presentation, and we saw some great instruction as we went by the classrooms. Mrs. Stoermer is even planning to do a STEM activity with her students that will involve them using measurements and calculations transform cardboard into awesome creations! We will do our best to circulate and take pictures of the awesome work that you are doing, but feel free to catch those special moments on your own and upload the pictures to our OneDrive group so we can share and celebrate.
A Few Reminders
Email Mrs. Coleman with a description of the classroom appearance upon your arrival yesterday. We want to make sure that the classrooms are conducive learning environments.
Much thanks to Mrs. Freeman and Mr. Hewitt for our shirts, they look awesome! Don’t forget to pick up yours from Mrs. Coleman’s classroom before our next meeting on Feb. 20th. Please try to wear your shirt each session!
B-Team Teachers: Let Mrs. Whitaker know if any of your students had trouble logging into www.thelearningodyssey.com. I will work on making login cards for them to make the process smoother. Those of you who were not in attendance for the session last week with Mrs. Gibbons, feel free to stop by my room before our next session to get a brief overview of the program.
Sample Assessments: Many of you did not finish the GA Milestones Sample Assessments yesterday and this is fine. Feel free to continue to use this as a guide to instruct, but keep in mind that these are not the only skills that will be covered on the test. I will be sending out a sample lesson plan for reading and math so that you can have an idea of how you could maximize the hour and 15 minutes you have in the classroom with them.
Once again, thanks for your dedication. This is a great theme for the program because teamwork is the key to success!

Here are the highlights for this year's read-a-thon. Mrs. Fefe handy of the Page Turners organization has coordinated with executives from Cricket Wireless and Hartsfield Airport to come in and read to our students from 9 am – 11 am. A master schedule will be created that assigns the volunteers to classrooms.
The plan is to direct them to the media center when they arrive and allow them to select a couple of books that would be appropriate for the grade level they are reading to. Chick-Fil-A is catering the food for our volunteers/guest readers.
We will also need a few student representatives to escort our guest speakers/readers around the building. Fourth and Fifth Grade Level Chairs, please submit the names of five students per grade level by the end of the week to Mrs. Whitaker.
We will be soliciting the support and participation of our parents to volunteer their time to read to our students for the afternoon block (11 am-2 pm). Parents will need to schedule a time with their child’s teacher during that time period. Flyers will go home this week.
