"It Takes A Village" by Oakview's FEC, Ebony Williams
“It takes a village” is something many individuals have either heard or said. This proverb means that you have several individuals helping or being involved to achieve some goal. This is a perfect model for partnership and unity among all parties involved. This applies to our school system as well. Our goal being the success of ALL students. In order to have true success for our students, it's vital that schools form strong bonds with families. When students come to school, parents are trusting that their child will have individuals looking out for the best interest of their student. As a Family Engagement Coordinator, I'm always thinking, “How can I help this student be successful; talking with families about what works and what doesn’t work with their child?" In order to establish this, we must start by building relationships with the families. With relationships come trust and respect. The goal at Oakview this year is to establish and maintain positive relationships with our families. Building a solid foundation for school - home relationships is one necessary piece to the puzzle. We must practice supportive communication and interaction. We all are working together towards a common goal, which is the success of ALL students. Let’s start the work!
