Community Update: Week of Nov. 14th
Sharing information for the Wootton High School Community
Culture of Respect 3.0
Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers:
Montgomery County Public Schools and Wootton High School is committed to ensuring our students are equipped with the information needed to be able to recognize signs of bullying/cyber bullying, harassment (including sexual harassment), hate-bias incidents, hazing, intimidation, and student gender norms. An online student training lesson, entitled “Culture of Respect,” has been developed for students in grades 6 through 12. This online training lesson builds on last year’s student module and provides critical information that will help students better recognize the signs of inappropriate behaviors, including the various ways to report alleged/concerning incidents. The training includes a student survey that will provide school leaders with valuable data to assess the current culture and climate of respect at their schools and determine potential next steps to plan for improvements. Students will earn two SSL hours to complete the training.
The objectives of the training module are for students to know and be able to:
Review collective responsibilities in promoting a positive school culture and ensuring the physical, social, and emotional safety for all students in alignment with the MCPS Be Well 365 initiative.
Define bullying, cyberbullying, harassment (including sexual harassment), hate-bias, hazing, intimidation, and student gender norms.
Recognize signs of hazing, bullying, and harassment, including sexual harassment/assault.
Identify reporting procedures to inform school administration of potential concerns and incidents.
Analyze different scenarios and discuss possible consequences per the MCPS Student Code of Conduct.
Complete a feedback questionnaire, including an activity to help school administration gauge the level of concern in each of the areas addressed in the training module.
The training should take approximately 30 minutes to complete and will be accessible to all students via their myMCPS Classroom homepage beginning October 20, 2022. Students are asked to complete the training at school by November 22, 2022. An Advisory period on November 21st will be a dedicated time for students to complete this task.
If you have any questions or concerns about the topics that will be covered, please contact me, or your child’s school counselor. See instructions on accessing a parent demo course and this letter in other languages:

November is Remembrance and Reconciliation Month
The Commission on Remembrance and Reconciliation was established by the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights in 2019 to promote a better understanding of its history and legacy of African Americans in the county.
In response, Montgomery County Public Schools will observe Remembrance and Reconciliation Month by supporting local Emancipation Day celebrations, providing schools with age-appropriate lessons on local historic African American communities, and virtual changemaker workshops for students and their families in English and Spanish on November 15 - 17, 2022. Register here to attend a changemaker workshop.

City of Rockville Holiday Drive
The City of Rockville has begun their annual Holiday Drive to help those in need in our communities. Wootton HS is a collection site and we are asking for donations! There are two opportunities to help. For Thanksgiving food boxes, please bring in items such as canned vegetables, soup, gravy cranberry sauce, bag of rice, or boxes of pasta and stuffing. We are collecting these items now through November 16th. There is a box in the main office. Coming up after Thanksgiving, we will be collecting toys, games, science/craft kits for ages baby to 11 from November 28th-December 12th. Thank you!
