Literacy Centers
Focuses on skills associated with Kindergarten standards
Students practice skills that have been previously taught
Opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned through independent tasks
Learn how to work and cooperate with other students in their center group
Gives Mrs. Abrams an opportunity to work with small groups at teacher table
Dino Time
-DINO time is a designated time for interventions and extensions
-Some students are receiving interventions to close learning gaps
-Some students are working on extensions to push their learning to the next level
-Classroom teachers, Mrs. Legg, Mrs. Benner, Mrs. Benavides and Mrs. Ostrom will be working with students during this time
Snack Time 1:00
Snack Time - Please pack your child a quick, healthy finger snack each day.
No chips, cookies, candy
Make sure your child knows which items are for snack versus lunch.
Sports top water bottles (not juice) may be sent to stay in each child’s cubby.

Kindergarten Folders
Dodd Planner- will be the communication log between you and Please checked daily, signed and returned with the black binder clip
Dodd Folder-This folder will be sent home everyday and will contain:
1. Work we did in class - Please go over all the work your child has completed to reinforce the skills we learned
2. Work your child did not complete in class, please complete unfinished work at home to practice each skill
3. Work your child missed if they were absent
4. This will replace the tradition Homework Folder of past.
* You can Keep all the work at home It doesn’t need to be return
Blue Reading Folder
This folder will contain:
1. Letter Sounds / numbers / sight words
2. A reading list of common words and sentences
3. A book when they are ready to read
Please go through and practice each night for 10 minutes
Return to school when you have completed each page
I have wonderful volunteers that come and help me read with students
SMORE
Newsletter- I send a weekly newsletter by email that will include important information and dates .
LIBRARY
We will go to the library every Monday morning. Your child’s library book will come home in a zip lock bag that has their name and ID# on it.
Please return the library book as well as the zip lock bag each Friday.
Star of the Week
Every week, I randomly pick a student to be our Star of the Week. Through the week that student is my special helper. On Friday I will send home a small black binder that holds a Fun facts page for you to complete. On Monday you will return the binder with the completed form and pictures of the student and family.
This is always a student and parent favorite.
Kindergarten Tidbits…
Conferences- Wylie ISD has two designated Conference Nights. (Fall and Spring)
Sickness- District policy states that children must be fever free without medication for 24 hours
Extra Clothes- have extra in backpack / if they use Nurse Marla clothes please wash and return
Lunch Money- go on line to put $ on their account, or bring $ in zip bag with name, lunch stick
Lunch boxes- send all they need: drink, napkin, spoon. Practice opening and closing items themselves as well as cleaning up on their own
Take care of their own personal needs:
blowing their nose
buttoning/zipping clothing
using the restroom neatly and correctly
Washing their hands afterwards and cleaning up any mess they made
Throwing paper towels in the trash

Kindergarten Dismissal
Dismissal- is at 2:40 each day. Please be sure you bring your child’s car tag each time you come for pickup. Please write a note in your child’s folder if anything changes, pertaining to transportation. We cannot send a child home a different way if we do not have a note from you.
Walkers will be dismissed through the doors at the end of the fourth grade hallway to walk home. If you are meeting your child to walk with him/her, bring your pick up card with you and wait outside the doors at the end of the fourth grade hallway. A Parent or older sibling must be with a kindergarten student walking or riding their bikes home.
Car riders will wait in the gym until their numbers are called. You will pull your car up to one of six cones and your child will be put into your car by a teacher. Please work with your child on learning to recognize and write their name and number. This is the card that you should have received this evening from your child’s teacher. For example Abrams 5
What Can Most Kindergartners Do…
Write their first name (one capital letter)
