Monte Vista Blue Jay Community News
Monte Vista 2023: November 27- December 1
Weekly Recap (Week of November 13th-17th)
We sure had an eventful week prior to the Thanksgiving Break! Enjoy a few highlights from the week.
Parent conferences had high attendance and collaboration. It was great to see many older students in attendance with their parents, too. Conversations were centered around student strength areas and goals for the upcoming trimester. THANK YOU families for your attendance!
Our grades 7-8 basketball teams continued their season practices with much enthusiasm and hard work out on the courts. Meanwhile, our soccer athletes were recognized with a fun celebration at Via Paraiso Park on Wednesday, followed by an awards ceremony with families in the cafeteria.
Our Monte Vista School Site Vision Council met on Wednesday to begin the process of drafting a mission statement for our school as well as review Goals 3 and 4 of our Single Plan for Student Achievement (English Language Learners and Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports). Council members engaged in an activity in which they explored the two questions listed below, and our staff will participate in a similar activity at our upcoming staff meeting this week. We will continue to seek input from all stakeholders as we work to draft a meaningful mission statement.
- Imagine our school 5-10 years from now, what would you envision it having?
- What are some qualities in a learner you want your scholar to attain at Monte Vista
We had a productive general PTO meeting on Tuesday evening, followed by a PTO sponsored Movie Night event. Two more parents were voted in to support the board in future endeavors. Families had the opportunity to spend some time together watching Elementals with fun concessions offered, too.
Finally, we ended the week with Sports Field Day, which brought the sight of many sports apparel and jerseys to our site. It was fun to see all the fanfare. Go blue jay school spirit!

They will not be allowed to visit during any other time, with exception to them being absent on a day and having a note to visit during another time period.
Cookie Exchange for Staff and Teachers: The PTO will be hosting a Cookie Exchange for our teachers and staff in the Teacher’s Lounge on December 14th and 15th. We have approximately 85 adults on campus that assist our children daily. We would like each of them to take home a variety of 24 dozen handmade treats and goodies. This means we will need about 2,040 items. We will be sending out a parent square request this week, please be on the look out. If you are unable to volunteer during the day, this is a fun way to be able to be a part of supporting who supports us. We would Iike to have all of the baked goods between the 12th and 13th in hand for set up.
