The Buzz at Westbrook School
September 3, 2021
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
Each year we choose a Westbrook school-wide theme to reinforce with staff and students throughout the year. This year’s theme of RESILIENCE was introduced to the Westbrook staff at our opening day presentation. Resilience is something that we have all had to learn, especially in the last eighteen months. The Westbrook staff is resilient and continues to show resilience by adapting, responding, and pivoting while teaching during a pandemic.
Our staff is committed to helping our students develop the muscle of resilience. This past week Mr. Anderson and I have started visiting each classroom to read a picture book. Mr. Anderson has been reading the book Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall, and I have been reading After The Fall by Dan Santat. Both of these picture books share a message of resilience. Teachers will continue to incorporate lessons into their classroom meetings on resilience throughout the school year. Each teacher has a weeble wobble that they made on opening day that symbolizes falling/hardship and getting back up. Please feel free to watch this video to see how we use weeble wobbles to teach resilience in the classroom. We encourage you to reinforce the theme of resilience at home with your children.
We appreciate your partnership. Enjoy a safe and relaxing four-day weekend!

Throughout the year buses may be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., vehicular congestion; train traffic, weather, mechanical issues, etc.). The district has been using Bus Bulletin for several years now and is confident that this online notification system is the best way to inform parents should the need arise. For more information about Bus Bulletin, see the flyer below and sign up at www.BusBulletin.com/parents.
