Exam Exemptions (Absences/Tardies)
Parents and Students:
Please pay attention to attendance. Absences and tardies affect all students at the end of each semester when it comes time for exemptions. Make sure you have all corrections made to your attendance within 48 hours of the absence. Corrections cannot be made at the end of the semester. Please read the following regarding absences and exemptions.
Students may be exempted from 3 semester exams for classes in which they have a semester average of 85 or above AND have no more than two absences that semester from that class, AND are present on the exam days for the periods being exempted.
Students may not just sign in and leave during exams. They must remain in the testing classroom for the entire testing period in order to receive their exemption.
Students in EOC tested courses (Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and US History) are required to take fall semester exams; however, they are not required to take a spring semester exam in the EOC tested subjects.
The second semester courses exempted shall not be the same courses exempted the fall semester.
For exemption purposes only, 3 tardies = 1 absence no matter where they occur across the schedule. These are added to each period's absences. (If you have 3,4,5, tardies = 1 absence; 6,7,8 tardies = 2 absences; 9 or more tardies = CANNOT EXEMPT ANY CLASSES).
