Safe Schools Grant and Survey
Please Read!
The Beaverton School District received a Safe Routes to School grant. The purpose of this program is to make walking and rolling (biking, scooting, bus) to school safe, convenient and fun. Many schools have made huge progress!
One of the requirements of the grant is to get some information about how our students are now traveling to school and what parents think about the routes to school. In order to collect this data we ask that you please fill out the Parent Survey generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center. The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31st.

Be Informed
The purpose of this brief article is to inform you of an activity called “juuling.” While we do not see the same behaviors our high schools see, we are aware of this activity (and the allure of it), especially with our older students. Our health curriculum addresses these topics at all three grade levels and asks students to think about the dangers associated with this trending behavior. This semester our students read the following article from the New York Times: Dangers of Vaping. In addition, 'Juuling': The most widespread phenomenon you’ve never heard of from the Boston Globe provides some additional information. If appropriate, we encourage you to review these articles with your children and talk about the dangers of e-cigarettes and vaping. If you have further questions or would like more information, Westview PTO is sponsoring a parent enrichment night on May 17th from 6:30 - 8:00pm at Westview High School. Please see their attached flyer: Westview Parent Night. At Stoller, we encourage our students to report vaping activity to a trusted adult. Administration will respond as outlined in our discipline handbook.
Local Option Levy Renewal
Ballots in Mail Soon!
The Beaverton School Board has placed a five-year Local Option Levy Renewal on the May 15, 2018 ballot. This is a vote-by-mail election.
If passed, Ballot Measure #34-284 would allow Beaverton schools to keep 300 teaching positions, maintain class sizes, and help ensure students are prepared for post-high school success. The levy renewal costs $1.25 per $1,000 assessed property value, the same tax rate as the current levy. Homes with the median assessed value of $238,000 would continue to pay about $25 per month. The levy would raise approximately $31 million in the first year.
For more information, including an informational flyer and frequently asked questions, please visit the Local Option Levy Information webpage.

It's Not Too Early to Think about College!
Going to college doesn’t “just happen." Your student needs to prepare for the future by learning how to make plans to reach his or her goals.
There are countless websites and resources about going to college - it's hard to know where to begin. Oregon Goes To College is a great place to start! It focuses on the basic information about college with Oregon-specific resources and examples.
State Assessment Score Reporting
Last Reminder...
Beginning this year, state test scores are available in ParentVUE! You will be able to see your child’s test results sooner than in prior years with less impact on the environment. For the English Language and Math tests, a student’s score is available in ParentVUE two weeks after both parts of the test have been completed. Science test scores are available in Parent VUE three days after the test has been completed. The Testing Information tab in ParentVUE has links to additional information about your child’s scores. If you need assistance activating a ParentVUE account, please contact your child’s school.
Students whose parents/guardians do not have an active ParentVUE account will receive a paper report of test scores. Paper score reports will be sent home with students on the last day of school. Score reports will be mailed over the summer for students with test results that arrive after the paper score reports are printed in June. Students with at least one parent/guardian with ParentVUE access may request a printed report by contacting Kay Jenkins by email at kay_jenkins@beaverton.k12.or.us or by phone at 503.356.4594.
Please note: these scores are not currently available in the ParentVue phone app.
