West Navarre Intermediate
August/September Parent Newsletter
Greetings Navigator Families!
We have had a great start to the school year! We are so excited to have our students back and in a routine. If you have not had the opportunity to complete a volunteer application, we encourage you do so as soon as possible. All volunteers must be school board approved before volunteering in any capacity at the school site. You may pick up a volunteer application at the school site or complete and download the application online then turn in to the school. Applications may be found on the school district website by clicking the following link. https://sites.santarosa.k12.fl.us/forms/sr000003VolunteerApplication.pdf
All volunteers are invited to join us for volunteer orientation on Tuesday, September 20 @ 9:00 AM in the cafeteria. You will need to sign in at the front office as a visitor and report to the cafeteria for the orientation. This is a great opportunity to meet other volunteers/parents/guardians and to meet our PTO executive board and find out more information about the volunteer program and opportunities within our school. If you have any questions about the volunteer program, please contact Mrs. Drost, Assistant Principal, at 850-936-6060.
The 2022-2023 Family Guide is currently available on the district’s website at: https://sites.santarosa.k12.fl.us/files/familyguide.pdf
Parents are welcome to join their children for lunch and sit at the blue tables beginning the week of August 29. For the safety and security of all students, lunch at the blue tables is ONLY for parents and their child.
As a reminder, we encourage all of our families to apply for Free or Reduced Lunch, whether you believe you qualify or not. The program qualifies students and schools for more than free meals! Complete an online application at www.myschoolapps.com or request a paper application by contacting our front office @ 850-936-6060.
As you know, good school attendance is a must for every child if they are to receive a quality education. Please make sure your child is in attendance each day at school. If you have questions or concerns about your child's attendance, please contact the school.
If you would like to recognize an outstanding Navigator Teacher or Staff Member, please complete the recognition form at the bottom of this newsletter and return to Shana Dorsey or send an email to dorseys@santarosa.k12.fl.us.
Thank you for your continued support and partnering with us in your child's education! We are looking forward to a great school year!
Shana Dorsey

Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) Corner
West Navarre Intermediate is proud to be a Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) Model School. The PBIS framework provides schools with an opportunity to teach expected behaviors utilizing positive reinforcement along with more targeted interventions for students who require more intensive supports. Our school population is divided into five different communities and students earn navigator points/bucks for their respective communities by displaying the school-wide behavior expectations below. Each 9 weeks, the community with the most navigator points/bucks will be rewarded with a special event. Our goal is to maintain a program that fosters school-wide unity, positive behavior, and promotes lifelong learning. Our communities and school wide expectations are: Fidelis (Loyalty), Erubesco (Respect), Officium (Responsibility), Veritas (Truth), and Animus (Courage).
1st Quarter: WEEKLY PBIS POINT TOTALS - 8/12/2022
The community in the lead is....Veritas.... Congratulations!
Erubesco– 62
Animus – 38
Fidelis – 45
Officium – 49
Veritas – 71
Model Classroom Winners for August/September

Model Lunch Tables for August/September
Will be announced at the end of September.
Navigator Bucks
- Students earn Navigator bucks/points for exhibiting positive expectations.
- Points are collected weekly and used to determine the quarterly winning community.
- Students can redeem their Navigator bucks at the end of each quarter at "Community Concessions".
Positive Office Referrals
Teachers can submit Positive Behavior Referrals to Administration. These will be a surprise for students! Teachers will submit and then administration will call the student up and make a positive phone call home praising the student for the character trait(s) he/she exhibited. These students also receive a brag tag and community pencil.
Student of the Week Nominations
Students are nominated by staff members on a weekly basis. We will start student of the week on Friday, September 6.
Students of the week will receive a certificate, brag tag and are featured on ITV each Friday morning unless otherwise noted. Additionally, their picture is posted on scrolling ITV announcements for the week.
Students also earn the opportunity to spin the community wheel while on ITV to earn extra points for their respective community!
Book Fair
The book fair dates are Sept.9-Sept. 21. We will also be open all three Open House Nights from 5:30-6:30, Sept. 13, 14, and 15.
