Nominate a Staff Member for the Park Hill STAR Award!

Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.

That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher, and a support employee. Anyone can nominate an employee for this award by using the form below. It asks you to share how your nominee demonstrates our district values of continuous improvement, high expectations, integrity, visionary leadership, and student focus. You can also share how your nominee supports the goals in our district’s strategic plan.

Math at Home

Here is a fun doubling game you can play at home with your child!

Mirror, Mirror:

Start with doubles within 5 only using one hand. If one person shows 2 fingers, the other also shows 2, they match them as if touching a mirror, and say “4”. If One person shows 3 the other matches 3 and together they say “6”.

Once your child has mastered doubles within 5, move on to play doubles within 10! Make 5 with one hand each time and extra fingers with the other hand. If you each mirror 8 with a 5 on one hand and 3 on the other, match the 3’s together and say “6”, then match the 5’s together and say “teen” (because a ten is a teen!). If you each show 7 fingers, make 5 on one hand and 2 on the other. Touch the 2’s and say “4”, then touch the 5’s and say “teen”! Continue playing with more doubles.

This game will help your student to understand double conceptually, AND they will become fluent in their math facts at the same time, AND they will be more ACCURATE than with flashcard practice alone!

For fun, this game can also be played without a partner using a mirror as your double. 😊

Happy Doubling!
