CYBER SAFETY DAY - PARENTS INVITED TO PREVIEW MOVIE
Ridgeview STEM Jr. High will be hosting a Cyber Safety Day on Wednesday, October 3rd. As part of this day, all students will see the video “Sticks and Stones” in their classrooms, followed by a classroom discussion by their teachers. “Sticks and Stones” is a comprehensive look at several relevant issues facing teens today, particularly regarding the dangers of internet bullying, harassment, peer pressure, peer conflict, hate speech, and suicide. The film also highlights the dangers inherent in on-line communications and provides a forum for discussing effective conflict resolution skills and social/emotional coping strategies.
In addition, will will have Joshua Horacek, an assistant prosecutor from the Fairfield County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Erin Macuga, from Ohio Homeland Security, and David Hayward, PLSD Instructional Technology Coordinator will present.
We will be previewing the film for parents on Monday, October 1st after school from 2:20 to 3:05 PM. Feel free to come to our Media Center on that day to watch the video and ask the school counselors any questions you may have about the Cyber Safety Day. We think it is vitally important to share with all of our students the way to safely use the internet. On the day of the event, we will provide discussion questions for you to facilitate an open conversation about what students took away from the day. Those question will be posted on the Ridgeview STEM Jr. High Facebook page and the website. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school counselors, Eileen McGarvey and Kris Owen.

Food Pantry needs your help for the Holidays
Dear Friends of the Pickerington Food Pantry,
Please consider helping the pantry in providing a Holiday Meal Basket to anyone living in the Pickerington Local School District, who is in need of food for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. You can help by donating a completed meal basket, by making a financial contribution toward the purchase of a meal basket, and/or by volunteering during our distribution of the baskets to our clients.
We will begin taking requests from clients for both Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Meal Baskets on October 1, 2018.
We will need your commitment (see attachment) to: volunteer, provide completed meal baskets, and/or your financial donation by October 31, 2018.
Donated meal baskets must be delivered between 9:00AM and 12:00PM, as they will be distributed to our clients between 1:00PM and 5:00PM, on:
· Sunday, November 18, 2018, for the Thanksgiving Holiday;
· Sunday, December 16, 2018, for the Christmas Holiday.
The suggested items for each food basket are as follows:
¨ Turkey (12 to 16lbs)
¨ Potatoes (5lb bag)
¨ Stuffing Mix (1 bag or 2 boxes)
¨ Gravy (2 mix packs or 2 jars/cans)
¨ Cranberries (2 cans)
¨ Vegetables (4 cans)
¨ Pie (1 NOT needing refrigeration)
By working together, we can provide this special service to those in need in our community and avoid duplicating our efforts.
Thank you for your consideration in helping those in need during the holidays.
Please contact us at volunteer@pickeringtonfoodpantry.org with your commitment to service, or questions.
With the warmest regards,
Vanessa Niekamp, Executive Director
