VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: 'BEING COURAGEOUS"
WHAT: To follow our school value of being ‘Courageous’ – by doing it!
WHY: Courage is important because ‘we all have to do things we don't like sometimes’.
Courage is when you are brave about something you fear.
Everyone is afraid of something or someone - lowering your standards to go along with the crowd should never pass for courage.
HOW: Courageous people believe in themselves. They know who they are and what they stand for.
They have strong values, recognize their personal capabilities, and are confident in meeting the challenges that lie before them.
Courageous people are passionate and purposeful.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS: (See profile sheet)
1) Your courage means being afraid and acting anyway
2) Your courage becomes a habit, a muscle you can exercise
3) You notice every time you do something that you’re scared to do—something your body is telling you not to do
4) You learn to attend to positive signals and to ignore negative ones
5) You find role models of quietly courageous people
6) You continue to learn and accept challenges
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been great to see our Vogeltown learners enjoying the play times when we can get outside and go for a run around, in between showers. Our school behaviour data from Term 2 showed us that we had the lowest number of playground issues in a term since collecting data in 2015 - this is fantastic to be able to report to the community, student and staff about. Tu Meke to our Vogeltown tamariki!
A massive thanks to all our whanau who came to the Learning Conferences last week. We appreciate all our whanau for making alternative arrangements for your families on the Friday.
As always we aim for 100% attendance to these learning conferences, we managed to achieve an overall attendance of 86% (86% for our Taranaki team, 81% for our Huatoki team and 90% for our Paetoki team). The same progress report you received last week will be updated at the end of this term and sent home showing Term 3 progress.
Term 2 showed we have made positive progress against our reading, writing and maths learning targets that we set at the end of 2020 - this has been pleasing to see! Our Vogeltown learners are working hard in class to meet their learning goals - and these goals are what has been reported against in the progress reports and learning conferences last week.
Aroha nui, Mr O

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent. You can do this via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office. Please tell the office even if you have let the teacher know.
2) We are operating at Covid-19 Level 1. Please also remember, to scan the Covid-19 QR code when you come in to the school. if you are signing your child(ren) in/out, you will still need to scan the QR code. Thanks heaps for stopping this virus in NZ.
3) PLEASE - DO NOT park in our neighbours driveways or in the bus stops around the school. We need to respect our neighbours and the community of Vogeltown School. Last week we had one of Vogeltown learners miss the bus because there were cars parked in the bus stop and the bus could not get in.
Thanks whanau
Stay safe and be kind to each other. Thank you for the ongoing support of Vogeltown School, we appreciate the community we live in. Have a great weekend!
On behalf of the Vogeltown team,
Ka kite ano
