PCO Classroom Parent Program
The Sibley East PCO is looking for ways that we can foster more constructive collaboration between teachers, parents and the organization that looks for ways to support both through the needs of Sibley East students. To accomplish that goal, we adopted the Classroom Parent role last year, and plan to do so again this year!
WHAT IS A CLASSROOM PARENT?
You might be asking yourself, “What exactly is a classroom parent?” Well, a classroom parent serves as a liaison between the classroom teacher, the classroom parents and the Sibley East PCO.
CAN A CLASSROOM HAVE MORE THAN ONE CLASSROOM PARENT?
Yes. Ideally, it would be our goal to find one parent for each classroom. For larger classes it might help to have two.
WHAT RESPONSIBILITIES WOULD THE CLASSROOM PARENT HAVE?
- Teacher Support: This may include volunteering or finding volunteers for field trips, class parties, reading, etc. OR assisting in class social events (i.e. parties for Halloween, winter holidays, end of year, etc.)
- Sibley East PCO Support: Helping with school-wide events, such as fall festival, spring carnival or other PCO sponsored events by volunteering, finding volunteers and/or communicating to other class parents.
- Overall: This person would be a critical communication link between all three parties.
The role of classroom parent would not extend to issues, such as teaching or student performance, but rather means of classroom enrichment for the whole classroom student body. Parents would still communicate with teachers individually regarding their own children.
In summary, The Sibley East PCO would like to sponsor the classroom parent program in an effort to support our amazing teachers here at Sibley East Elementary! In doing so, we will be putting a list of student names along with a signature line for the parents to give permission for the Classroom Parent to contact them, and then also a check box for parents to mark if they'd like to be the Classroom Parent. All that we will ask of teachers is to quickly explain the role and have the parents sign up on the email list during their back to school conference. You can slip that list into the PCO mailbox and we will take it from there. If you choose not to participate in this program, simply let us know or we will assume you’re opting in.
Please feel free to contact the PCO at sibleyeastpco@gmail.com with any questions.

Raptor Visitor Management System
Sibley East is pleased to announce that we will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of our schools to strengthen our program of campus safety for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff.
Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present an ID such as a Driver’s License, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system. If a parent or guardian for any reason does not have a US government-issued ID, the school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor system.
The Raptor system will check to ensure that registered sexual offenders are not entering our school campuses without our knowledge. The Raptor system checks the visitor’s name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. The registered sex offender database is the only official database checked by the Raptor system. No other data from the ID is gathered or recorded and the information is not shared with any outside agency.
Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit. A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork.
The safety of our students is our highest priority and the Raptor visitor management system allows us to quickly identify those that may present a danger to our students. Thank you in advance for your understanding and your support in enhancing the school safety protocols in our district.
If you plan to visit the school or volunteer in your student's classroom this year, then we encourage you to bring your ID along to conferences so we can prepare your badge prior to the day(s) of your visit.
