Nelson Mandela was the first black President of South Africa. He spent 27 years in prison because he tried to overthrow the pro-apartheid government. He worked to achieve human rights, and a better future for everyone after he got out of prison.
"No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
- Nelson Mandela (1918-2013)
