GATE Information
The district provides a special program for students who are intellectually gifted. Children in grades 1-7 who perform extremely well on the district-administered Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) and other standardized measurements may qualify for identification as Gifted and Talented (GATE). If you think your child might qualify for identification and you would like to have him or her assessed, a GATE Assessment Consent form may be submitted on the HBCSD website from October 23 - December 13, 2017. Please click Parents, Parent Portal, GATE Assessment Consent Form or contact Debbie Bartlett in the GATE office at (714) 964-8888 ext. 2036.
The last day to submit consent forms is Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Please note that the district policy limits the number of times a student may be assessed to a maximum of two times between first and seventh grade. Testing will take place from January 10 through February 7, 2018. Children who qualify for placement in the program will be placed in the fall of the 2018-2019 school year. Please note that GATE Identification in middle school does not guarantee placement into honors courses.
Music Fundraiser
As a fundraiser for the Dwyer Music program, we are selling tickets to the November 2nd showing of the Beatles Concert from the high school district's Academy of the Performing Arts (APA). This concert will feature live performances of Beatles music by students from the Popular Music component of the MMET department, synchronized to video presentations of footage and historical background of the artists prepared by students from the Media component. It starts at 6pm at First Christian Church of Huntington Beach. Attached is a flyer with more info regarding the concert.
The tickets are $20 each and will be available in the Dwyer office until Tuesday, October 31st. Checks should be made to 'HBCSD-Dwyer' with 'Beatles Tickets' in the memo line.
Note that the tickets available through Dwyer are for the Thursday, November 2nd show only. Tickets for the Friday show will need to be purchased through APA directly on the HBHS campus. Please refer any questions to Mr. Mationg.
Halloween at Dwyer
ASB students will also be using their leadership capacity to help assist at the Smith Pumpkin Patch happening Friday afternoon. It is truly awesome to see our students mentoring the elementary students who will become Jr. Oilers!
To finish up the Halloween season at Dwyer, students will be allowed to dress in costumes to school on October 31. All students received an email on Thursday with specifics about dress code and PE. We can't wait to see how creative our students can be! You're never too old to dress up...wait until you see some of our fun staff costumes!
