Happy October!
We want to start by thanking all of the members of our State Road Community for making this one of the best and smoothest starts to a school year. Curriculum night provided an opportunity for teachers to share valuable information about what students will be learning as well as classroom procedures. As always, if you have questions please contact your child’s teacher.
Parents will meet with their child’s teacher twice a year, once in October and once in March. You will receive two reports cards on the parent portal summarizing your student’s progress towards the end of the year goals - one in January and one in June. The first set of conference days is coming up at the end of the month. Thursday, October 20th, Friday, October 21st, Thursday, October 27th and Friday, October 28th are half days and students are dismissed at 10:20am.
On Monday, October 31st, we will have our annual Halloween Parade beginning at 8:30am. This is a rain or shine event. If it is a nice day, we will parade outside along the bus loop for all to see. Parents are invited to watch the parade, but only if the weather cooperates. If it rains, the parade will still occur indoors but no visitors will be allowed. This fun annual event usually last about 20 minutes and then the students head back to their classes for instruction.
Attendance
If your child will be absent from school for an illness, doctor/dentist appt., travel/vacation, or will be late to school, please call the Attendance Line at 585-217-5306 and leave a detailed message. Please include any symptoms if the reason for being out is due to an illness.

- If you mark “Other” as a reason for absence in PikMyKid, or leave a message on the attendance line without a reason for the absence, that is considered an unexcused absence.
- If your child is going to be late to school or picked up early, please do not enter that as an absence into PikMyKid, please call our attendance line.
Important Safety Updates
As in previous years, doors to the school have been locked & secured. This year, the doors to the main entrance will be locked & secured as well. Visitors to State Road must enter through the main doors (#1). Before entering, press the buzzer located to the left of these doors. We will then let you in, listen for the "click".
Please make sure you are walking your student to the door if they are arriving late!
Parent Square
Please make sure you are signed up! We post a lot of communications through the app.
Parent Square app (new communication platform):
Webster CSD is excited to announce that we have adopted a new form of school-to-home communication called ParentSquare. This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with One Webster. It provides a safe way for district administrators, principals, teachers, staff, coaches, and parents to communicate, all in one place!
Through ParentSquare, district, school, grade level, and classroom information will be sent to your computer or phone via email and/or text. For even more convenience and additional options, download the ParentSquare app (available for free for iOS and Android devices). We encourage parents to visit ParentSquare and register as soon as possible. Please note that you need to use the email address or phone number you have in Infinite Campus to register! Once you have registered, you can find additional assistance here: ParentSquare Help Pages.
We hope you enjoy the convenience of this new, consolidated communications platform!

Check out what our Eagles have been up to!
Happy Autumn! For the month of October, the Pre~K friends will be learning about colors, pumpkins, fire safety, spiders, bats! On October 12th, we will have the chance to see a fire truck up close and learn about the equipment that firefighters wear to stay safe. The children have been visiting our school library and are learning how to take care of books and what authors and illustrators do. Pre~K is so much FUN!
Students are off to a great start in third grade! The students are growing accustomed to our new classroom routines and procedures. We are studying maps and globes and have started exploring multiplication and division in math. Our first module (ELA) is about accessing books around the world.
In ELA we are studying poetry and will be reading Sharon Creech's Love That Dog . Every fourth grader is expected to be reading at least 20 minutes a night. You can read together, have your student read independently, or listen to an audio book. Every minute matters and we appreciate your support!
In math, we are reviewing rules for rounding, estimating, and strategies for addition and subtraction. Be sure your fourth grader works on fact fluency outside of school. Nightly practice with flashcards for multiplication can help build confidence for our upcoming units.
Mrs. Vollmer's kindergarten class is doing amazing during the classroom learning time.
October will be a month full of fun! Mrs. Vollmer's classroom will be learning about the four seasons of a year.
Ms. Kelly's classroom will be exploring rights and responsibilities of being part of a group with a focus on groups within the school setting.
Mr. Ormerod's classroom will identify rights guaranteed by the Constitution and how they impact our daily lives.
All classrooms will continue to build on their social skills to encourage positive peer interactions! Great job centrum friends!
Social Media and Your Kids
Video games and apps. Do you like them? How do they make you feel? Does that feeling change the longer you use them? Are you using technology or is technology using you? Max Stossel will be in Webster on Tuesday, October 4 to talk to parents/guardians and other interested adults in the community about “Social Media and Your Kids”. As a former social media designer of some of the same distracting push notices that he now speaks out about, Max provides a fresh take on tech in the lives of our kids. So come to the Webster Schroeder auditorium, 875 Ridge Road Webster, on October 4; refreshments at 6:00 p.m.; presentation begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. This event is brought to you by Webster CSD in partnership with Webster Central PTSA and Webster Health and Education Network: A Drug Free Community Coalition. Want to know more about Max? Go to socialawakening.org.
