Career Spotlights
This month's career experience for MBE’s 4th-6th grade students is focused on Emergency Medical Personnel, including Regional Air-Medical Services landing their Medical Transfer Helicopter on the football field. We also hope to have EMS Services from Mountain Brook present with an ambulance and first responder vehicle. Students will benefit from the real-world examples of career paths and servant leadership. We appreciate our community partnering in our efforts to connect today’s learning to future job opportunities!
Veteran's Day Program
The fifth grade class invites you to attend this year’s Veterans Day Program on Tuesday November 5th at 8:30 and 1:00, and Wednesday November 6th at 8:30! We will celebrate our honored veterans with the singing of classic patriotic songs, a medley of service hymns, and an original poem by this year’s fifth grade class. Please join us for this special occasion and presentation!
K-6th Grade Thanksgiving Feast
Be on the lookout for information about MBE's Thanksgiving Feast from your child's teacher!
MBE's 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year
Kindergarten teacher, Kelsey Frey, will serve as Mountain Brook Elementary’s representative for Teacher of the Year. Her character, kindness shown to others, and desire for continued growth have enriched our school culture and have been essential in growing our students. Her reach goes beyond her classroom, beyond our school, and into the broader Mountain Brook community. Please join us in congratulating her on this tremendous honor.
Leadership Links
For the month of November, the Knights will explore Habit 3: Put First Things First. They will be reading the book Clean Your Room, Harvey Moon! by Pat Cummings. In the story, Harvey wakes up and is excited to enjoy relaxing in front of the TV on a Saturday morning. Harvey’s mom has other plans for the day. She told him today would be the day he cleans his room. As he completes this daunting task, he is amazed to find items he had lost or didn’t even know he had. As he cleans, he keeps track of time and worries he might miss some of his favorite shows. He quickly puts a few things away and puts the rest of the items he found under a blanket so that he can get back to the TV. After he shows his mom his finished work, she gives him lunch and tells him she will help him finish up the rest of his cleaning. This story illustrates how hard work must be finished before truly enjoying relaxation.

5th Grade Leads This Month's Service Project
5th Grade takes great pride in presenting an annual Veteran’s Day program at MBE. We salute family and friends that have served in our military. In addition to the performance, each 5th grade family makes toiletry bags that include items like nail clippers, shampoo, lotion, powder, toothpaste, and playing cards or puzzle books that we donate to the Birmingham Veterans Affairs. This year we are extending our service project to include Hayes K-8 School. We are excited that we will ALSO be delivering toiletry bags to their campus. It’s a wonderful time to be in 5th grade!
