January 6, 2022
Dear Bethany Families,
Our first week of school back from the break is almost complete! Despite the challenges of rising COVID cases in the community, and so much rain (!), it has been absolutely wonderful being back together at school. When we stay focused on our purpose, on all the things that we CAN do, and the things for which we have to be grateful, everything feels possible.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a supportive and loving community. We also appreciate the excitement and participation in our "Dollar Wars" Fundraiser. The most exciting part is that EVERYONE wins when we raise enough money to install the Omni Spinner on our playground (hopefully this spring!).

Dollar War Update:
We are off to an amazing start to Dollar Wars. It is so awesome to see all the students getting excited and the teachers joining in on the fun. We couldn't believe how much money we raised on our first day! Amount: $407.32
The money will be counted on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. The point totals will be posted on the bulletin board across from the containers.
Keep it coming and we will have teachers in silly hats and Ms. Rosenquist preparing to take a test in your class.
New Labels for Covid Testing Kits
OHSU covid test kits will be going home with your student on Friday. Please remember to administer the test on Monday, January 10th and return it to school.
Please use the label with the BARCODE when returning your student's test kit on Monday mornings. The addition of barcodes allows OHSU's lab to work more efficiently, and to allow for results to be sent out more quickly.
Save The Date: Virtual Event on January 26,2022
Resolve To Be More Active
Welcome back to school! January is a perfect time to try walking or biking to school -- for your health, your community and the planet! 1 mile of walking each way to school equals 2/3 of the daily recommended 60 minutes of physical activity. Get your steps in while decreasing the traffic and air pollution around your school and neighborhood.
• Join in the fun, find Bethany's Safe Route to School Map: Elementary School Maps,
• When you're out and about, keep your EYES and EARS OPEN, phones down and heads up. Know what’s going on around you. Have fun with your active commute!

********** PTO Updates **********
Variety Show: We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in producing the Student Variety Show. With COVID still making gathering in large groups complicated , we would like to produce a Variety Show Compilation Video to share with families. Students submit an entry describing their show piece, limit of 20-30 pieces each 2 minutes or less. 5th graders submit entries to be announcers. After school a practice can be held on the school stage and video recording taken of each piece before being compiled and presented via an online video platform to families on a specified date (March/April). Students can also be involved in writing up the Variety Show Program.(Other ideas or expertise for presenting this show to the community are welcome)
Jog-A-Thon: We are looking for volunteers interested in helping to organize the May Jog-a-Thon Fundraiser. Working with Mr. Stoller, come up with a plan for how the jog-a-thon would run, how sponsorships will be taken (99Pledges?/ old school paper forms), prizes/rewards.
Art Literacy (aka Art Lit): No art experience needed, training provided! We are looking for volunteers to teach pre-planned lessons about an artist and their art form during school hours. . Then they lead the students in an art activity relating and inspired by the artist. For more info: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/student-programs/art-literacy
