Morning Procedure:
In an effort to increase efficiency we have several options for families!
1 – Bike Riders/Scooter Riders – Please remind your Junior Raiders to ALWAYS walk their bike/scooter when they arrive on campus. They may safely keep their bikes/scooters in the bike park area in front of the school. Students should report to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast or directly to the playground. Teachers will meet their students on the playground when the bell rings at 8:12AM.
2 – Walkers – We HIGHLY encourage our students to walk to school. It promotes health and is great for our environment. Students should report to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast or directly to the playground. Teachers will meet their students on the playground when the bell rings at 8:12AM. Parents are welcome to walk their students on campus, but should say goodbye on the playground.
3 – Drive Through Lane: Please have your Junior Raider exit from the passenger side of the car. Students should be able to independently unbuckle their booster/car seats, out their backpack on and open and close the car door. Parents please remain in your car in the drive through lane. Students will proceed through the doors near the cafeteria. Students should report to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast or directly to the playground. Teachers will meet their students on the playground when the bell rings at 8:12AM.
4- School Bus
***Kinders & TK: On the first day of school parents are invited to walk their students to the classroom. Beginning the second day, students will line up on the playground and the teachers will pick them up at the bell. The teachers will give specific details on where they line up at the Meet the Teacher event.
Details:
-They will “gel in” as they enter the campus.
-If a child forgets their mask, they will be provided one at the gate.
- Students will not be marked tardy for the first week, as we tighten up our procedures.
Dismissal Procedure
The dismissal bell rings at 2:35PM. Students will be dismissed from their classrooms. We respectfully request parents stay outside the campus until the dismissal bell rings.
1 – Bike Riders/Scooter- Riders will be encouraged to walk their bikes/scooters while on the school campus.
2 – Walkers
3 – Park and Pick Up - Please arrange a meeting spot with your child in advance.
4- School Bus
*TK and Kinder: Students will be released directly to their parent/guardians at the classroom door. Mrs. Spainhower's class will be released directly to parent/guardians from Room1.
Covid Updates
Facial Coverings: Facial Coverings will be required for everyone indoors on our sites, and this remains a directive from the California Department of Public Health for students, staff, volunteers, and visitors. Masks are not required when staff or students are outdoors or are eating. Masks will be provided to all Jr. Raiders, if they forget theirs.
We do understand that mask wearing may be difficult. Our teachers will be building in frequent mask breaks, and maximizing outdoor time (air quality permitting). Students may request a mask break when they need it. Students will not be punished for having difficulty wearing their mask. We will work closely with all families to work through this mandate together.
If you have any questions about mask wearing for your child, please contact taderman@frjusd.org to discuss your concerns. It is our desire to to maximize in-person instruction for our students.
Distancing: The CDC has determined that in-person instruction can occur safely without physical distancing requirements.
FRJUSD School Board: Our FRJUSD Board recently issued a formal resolution and sent letters to state representatives requesting more local control over mask mandates and covid safety protocols.
Universal School Meals Program
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will continue reimbursing schools for free meals to all students regardless of their income through the 2021-22 school year.
We will need to collect a Household Data form from each family. Every family that returns their form by September 2nd, will be entered in a raffle to be "PRINCIPAL FOR THE DAY"! The first class that returns all their forms will earn a dance party.

Hard Copies will be sent home the first week of school and be available at Back to School Night.

JOIN OUR PTA!
Along with our amazing teachers and staff at Burney Elementary School, parents play an important role within the school community. A great way to contribute to this community is to become involved with the PTA. The PTA is a volunteer organization that works to build strong relationships among parents, teachers and the school administration in support of students. The PTA provides volunteer and financial support to enrich the curriculum provided by the Fall River Joint Unified School District. When you join the PTA you become part of a network of parents and teachers working to enhance our children’s educational experience at Burney Elementary.
Why Join the PTA?
- Benefit your child: More than 30 years of PTA research has proven that children perform better when their parents are involved both at home and at school.
- Advocate for change: PTA membership can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at BES. Only members can vote on where PTA funds are spent, what programs should be implemented, and overall PTA goals.
- Influence legislation: Every member of our PTA gets counted toward the total number of PTA members in the state, thus allowing the California PTA to use those numbers when lobbying for legislation that is beneficial to our children at the local level.
- Stay connected: PTA events are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, build connections and discuss issues that are on your mind.
- Save money on purchases:
As a PTA member, you can save money on a variety of things ranging from groceries and school supplies to rental cars and tickets to LEGOLAND. Click to view National PTA Member Offers and California State PTA’s Member Perks.
There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school and be a part of making our school a better place for our kids to thrive and learn. Although welcomed and suggested, joining the PTA does not require any volunteer time on your part.
