Principal's Update - August/September, 2020

Welcome Back!

Dear Orchard Hill Families,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to the 2020-21 school year! The OHES staff have been diligently preparing for the return of our little Cubs and we are looking forward to another year of excellence. Montgomery township is a very special community and I am honored to be the principal of OHES, welcoming our youngest learners to this outstanding school district. Our teachers have been engaged in professional development opportunities throughout the summer and are prepared to deliver high quality instruction to all students.

The opening of this school year is unlike any other we have experienced. Please know that the OHES team is dedicated to providing all children an interactive and engaging learning experience for now and when we return to a hybrid model in October.

At OHES we pride ourselves on Bucket Filling. You can learn more about this philosophy by following this link. Now more than ever it is so important to be filling buckets. At our opening day assemblies we typically talk about how to fill each other's buckets. Although it looks a little bit different in these times, we challenge you to be thinking about ways your child can continue filling buckets. Some ideas might include writing a letter to someone special, calling someone just to say hello, waving at someone, or decorating a mask with a smile. As a school community we will be focusing on all of the positives that we can take from this unique experience. As the role models in our little Cubs' lives it is important that we all display a positive attitude towards distance learning each and every day. I encourage you to do the same at home.

This year we have planned a virtual "Meet and Greet" with your child's teacher to occur prior to the first day of school. Parents and students should look for a Google meeting invitation from their assigned teacher. These meetings will occur on September 3rd as follows:

  • 9:30 - 10:00 Preschool and Kindergarten
  • 12:00 - 12:30 Grade 1
  • 1:30 - 2:00 Grade 2

This school year will be a new journey for all of us. I wish you and your families stress free days and hope you enjoy the remaining days of summer.

Warmest regards,

Mrs. Scotti

Student Placement Information

On Friday, 8/28, you will be able to access your child's placement for the school year through Parent Access. We have worked diligently to place your child in the best possible setting. Please know that at this time we will not be able to accommodate any requests for classroom changes. Thank you for your understanding. Once in Parent Access you will navigate to a welcome letter from your child's teacher. Also be sure to look at our Parent/Student handbook for more information about our school.

New to Orchard Hill Elementary School?

To all of our new 1st and 2nd grade families, welcome! We hope you will find that OHES is truly a place where learning is joyful and children delight in attending school. We will be hosting a Newcomer's Reception on September 4th from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. This will be an opportunity to learn a little about our school and meet our PTA co-presidents. A Google meet invitation is forthcoming. We look forward to meeting you!

MES PTA Information

Our Montgomery Elementary School PTA co-presidents for the upcoming year are Mrs. Yuna Kim and Mrs. Jenna Huntley. They are working hard with their team of volunteers to plan special events for this year and encourage you to get involved. Our MES PTA is a great organization that supports many of our school-wide events. Click on the PTA link for more information on how you can get involved in our school.
