Early Life

John Brown was Born May 9th, 1800 and he initially studied to work in the ministry, he instead decided to take up his father's trade

Why did they chose to be against slavery

John witnessed a enslaved African American boy be beaten, haunting him for years to come and informing his own abolitionism. During the "bleeding Kansas conflicts, brown and his sons led attacks on pro-slavery residents.


In 1855 after assisting the escape of several slaves brown and his 5 sons moved to Kansas just after that territory had bean opened for possible expansion of slavery by the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
