Important Message from Mrs. Sanchez!
We have seen great improvements in our morning arrival with the car rider line! Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe. This is and will continue to be our priority. I have seen parents arriving earlier (remember our doors open at 7:15 AM daily), parents being kind and allowing the lines to consolidate into one lane, and parents having their students ready to get out of the car so the line moves faster. Alief Police has supported us at the intersection as well. As you can see, this is a team effort. The car rider line picks up around 7:35 AM to 7:55 AM. The lines move very fast from 7:15 AM to 7:30 AM. Please come early to beat the rush!
Take a look at the map below to help you understand how our car rider line will move in the morning.
- All car rider drops off will travel through the front drive of the building. If you wish to park and walk your child to the front door, please park in the front of the building only. You may not park or drop off in the teacher's parking lot for student safety (there is no crosswalk). Parking along Rio Bonito, in front of the school, is also prohibited as these are fire lanes in the event of an emergency.
- Buses, daycares, Hearne teachers and staff, and students in our special education classrooms are allowed to use the middle lane to access the teacher's parking lot for drop off. Each of these vehicles has a special tag. If you are in the outside lane, the crossing staff will filter you into the front drive of the school to keep this lane clear. Please be patient and stay in one lane.
- Remember school zones are cellphone free zones. Pay attention to the flow of traffic and prevent receiving a ticket, up to $500.
- If your student is eligible to ride the bus, we encourage you to send your student on the bus.
- Please do not park in the O'Donnell Middle School parking lot and walk your student across the street. Park on the other side of Rio Bonito (near the Parks of Westpark apartments) and walk across using the crossing guards as your guide.
If we follow these 5 steps, each day we will have more and more students at school on time. Remember that breakfast closes at 7:50 AM and instruction begins at 7:55 AM.
If you would like to volunteer to help us open car doors in the morning, please come see Mrs. Sanchez and Mr. Serpas.
Below you will find each grade level's newsletter. We develop these newsletters to keep you informed. We appreciate your support by reading your child's grade level newsletter so you can receive more information pertinent to your child, celebrate our students, and outline assignments that will be graded.
If you need anything, please let us know so we can support you and your family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Johanna Sanchez

Atentamente,
Sra. Johanna Sanchez

Thank you for taking good care of the devices!
Don't forget the charger!
Students may bring their own device (laptop or iPads only) to school for in-person learning, according to our BYOD Policy.
Students are responsible for personal devices.
Welcome back to School Huskies- Follow these Procedures!
Our doors will open at 7:15 AM for breakfast, which is free for all students. Staff members will be stationed throughout the building to assist students as they head to breakfast or their teachers' classrooms. Our hallways are one-way hallways at this time.
- If your child will be coming by car, parents should utilize the car rider line and remain in their vehicle. Students should be able to open their own door and exit the vehicle. We will have staff stationed down the car rider line and on their path to breakfast to help as needed!
- Bus riders will be dropped on the side of the building as usual and staff will assist them as they go through the hallways.
We are asking all parents to be patient in the drop-off line as we expect the line to move more slowly than in previous years. We will not count tardies the first week of school as long as we still have cars in line. Please help us out by having your child ready to exit the car.
For our little ones, you may want to practice how to unbuckle, put on backpacks, put on their masks, and open the car door. All students will need to exit the car on the passenger side.
Please make sure your child arrives to school prepared so they can get to their classrooms quickly.
Thank you for partnering with us to make this year the best one yet!
Breakfast and Lunch
PK students will eat breakfast during their morning procedures, at 8:15AM.
Please speak with your child's teacher or call the front office for questions regarding the times.
Student Arrival Locations
Breakfast is free for all students until 7:50 AM.
Dismissal Procedures
Our school's dismissal procedures accommodate social distancing, whenever and wherever possible.
Students will be released in this order:
- Bus Riders
- Daycare
- Walkers
- Car Riders (please expect delays)
All car riders will receive a number tag for all students and siblings. This must be visible and hanging for all vehicles. If you do not have a car rider tag or skip the car rider line, this will cause delays.

KINDERGARTEN RELEASE GUIDELINES
If your kindergarten student will ride a school bus home and you want him/her to be met at the bus stop by you or a guardian, the following items must take place.
- You must fill out a Kindergarten release form and specify the student must be met.
- You must return the Kindergarten release form to the school office.
- The school office will then issue a green name placard to the parent/guardian.
- The green name Placard is the Only Way a parent/guardian can receive their kindergarten child at the bus stop if you checked that you want him/her to be met at the bus stop by you or a guardian. If you did not get a green Name Placard you should contact your school immediately to get one before the first day.
- If you or your child's guardian fail to show the green Placard to the school bus driver the student WILL NOT be released at the bus stop. The student will be returned to the school where the parent/guardian will have to come and pick him/her up.
Please make sure to carefully read the entire contents of the NEW Kindergarten release form to familiarize yourself with these guidelines.
