During the Holiday Season, we want to instill in our students the importance of giving. Beginning December 1st, we are encouraging students and staff to donate the specific items listed below. Each day is a different item. Students are asked to bring items in each day to their homeroom class. All items collected will benefit our local charities.

PTO November 27, 2022 Update
Thank you to everyone for donating to the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon last week. PTO provided chicken, salad and baked potatoes. Thank you for sending in sides and desserts. Everyone enjoyed the meal that was provided!
We are wrapping up our Attraction Coupon Book fundraiser and will announce winners in the competition for the Week of Free Dressdown this week. The student with the most sales will earn a $75 cash prize. Runner-up receives a $25 cash prize.
PTO's Bear Pride online store has closed. We expect delivery of your Bear Pride orders later this week. We will get them sorted and send them home with your student as soon as possible.
Our PTO needs volunteers as well as a secretary. If you can help us with emails, please reach out. We also need new board members for next year, as we have families moving on to high school. If you are interested in helping this year and possibly stepping into a position next year, we’d love to have you! If you are available to help us sort shirt orders this week, please text Misti Lee at 910-358-1085.
Thank you for supporting your school and PTO! Please check New Bridge Middle School PTO on Facebook for updates. 🐻

WE Still NEED YOUR HELP!

Our Football/Soccer Scoreboard has served us for 25 years! It is time for a new one!
The time has come to replace our 25 year old football/soccer scoreboard. Unfortunately, they are VERY expensive! A basic Scoreboard with installation costs well over $10,000. As a result, we are launching a campaign to raise funds for the purchase of a new up to date unit. We are currently in the process of seeking bids. Once we have a price, I will let you know. As we move forward with this endeavor, I will provide updates in the weekly NBMS SMORE newsletter. We are asking for direct donations. We could use your support and help in spreading the word! Please scan the QR Code or click the link to donate.

Why NO Cell Phones at NBMS
Research:
- Just having your phone in your possession can impair your learning
- Cellphones in classrooms contribute to failing grades: study
- Guiding students to develop a clear understanding of their cell phone use
- Mobile phones in the classroom: A helpful or harmful hindrance?
- Reading on a smartphone promotes overactivity in the prefrontal cortex and lowers reading comprehension, study finds
Additional reasons:
- Research shows having cell phones on your person or near you pulls student attention away from focus, decreasing cognitive function and can increase anxiety
- It distracts others when someone is looking at his/her phone
- Texting is like note passing on steroids
- Phones can be used to cheat
- Students are videoing students and teachers and posting to social media (sleeping student, teacher tangents, etc. on Tik Tok) which is a violation of OCS policy
- Recording in bathrooms/locker rooms has increased and videos are being posted, again a student handbook violation and illegal
- Allowing cell phones in schools is giving students the ability to take their attention elsewhere- they are teenagers, we set the expectations for learning and policies
