Boone Meadow Friday Flyer

January 6, 2023

Welcome, 2023!

Dear Boone Meadow Families

We look forward to a solid semester 2 as we returned to school this week. Many new families are now calling Boone Meadow their school home as they make new friends in our community. We have so many students eager to welcome new faces to this special place.

January is also a time when the staff deeply reflects on student growth, as well as, gauges their own growth as a professional. Teachers are wrapping up mid-year student progress reports, which will be available for families next week. In addition, note that January 17th is a professional development day for teachers, so no school on January 16th and 17th for students.Staff will be engaged in deepening understandings with mathematical practices with our mathematics curriculum

Boone Meadow Bash Planning Meeting (THIS SUNDAY EVENING @ 6PM) - The BME PTO is excited to bring back the BME Bash this year on April 28, 2023 - but we can't do it without parent/family support! We will begin planning for the Bash THIS Sunday evening, January 8 at 6:00 pm. Meet us in the school cafeteria to brainstorm, find a committee to join, and help us plan the best event ever! Committees may include: Games, inflatables, food, auction, volunteers. Look for the yellow flyer coming home in your child's folder.

Wellness Night - We are excited to host Wellness Night this coming Thursday, January 12th. This is an evening evening where students and families are invited to visit the school between 6:00-7:30. During this time, a variety of activities will be housed throughout the building for engaging experiences. Come to tap into physical activity, learn about nutrition, and explore your creative side. We hope to see you on Thursday.

STEM Science & Engineering Fair - Save the date! Many students are diligently working on their science/engineering projects to share with you! Our Science and Engineering Fair is scheduled for January 26th (corrected time is 6:00-7:30) and all families/students are welcome to visit.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Tom Hundley, Principal

BME PTO Has A New Website!

The BME PTO has established a new way to share information with parents, families, and the community! The new website can be found at www.BMEpto.com and includes up-to-date information about events, fundraisers, and other PTO activities. Please spread the word about the new site, so even those without social media can explore opportunities with the PTO!

Recess Reminder

Indiana weather is known for its rapid changes and we have certainly already seen that this year! As the weather turns colder, students will need to come to school with their winter coats, hats, and gloves. Snow pants, waterproof boots, warm gloves/mittens are required to be able to play in the snow. Please reach out to our counselor, Mrs. Sloan, if you are in need of assistance to obtain cold weather gear. All children play outside except on rainy, icy, or very cold days (wind chill below the 10-20 degree range). Inside recess will be held on those exceptional days.

Here's how it works:

School Safety: Visitors & Volunteers Background Checks

When volunteers are needed and approved, appropriate staff members will reach out to you in effort to welcome your support and assistance.

If you plan to volunteer or visit in the future, please note the following information.

Click here for information regarding required Background Checks for volunteers: ZCS Volunteer Background Check

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building typically offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. If you plan to assist as chaperones or engage with children in a volunteer capacity, we strongly recommend getting a criminal background check completed well in advance to have on file.

Examples include:

  • Field Trip Chaperones
  • Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
  • Tutors
  • Volunteer Coaches
  • Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
  • Library Helpers
  • After Prom Workers
  • Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
  • Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

Examples Include:

  • Lunch Guests
  • Classroom Guest Speakers
  • Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
