Bolton Hill Nursery Weekly Update
Friday, February 28, 2020
Message from the Executive Director
Picking up on a theme mentioned last week, let's talk about how to ensure our community is ready should coronavirus set its sights on the Baltimore region.
Here is a good article (and quick read) about Preparing Your Home for Coronavirus.
While we know you and we are hoping it doesn't come to pass, it does make sense to be thinking now about how to respond to this public health emergency in Maryland, should authorities determine that a coordinated response to limiting the virus's spread is called for.
Should the virus be present in Maryland, we may have to determine whether and when to close our school. We are putting together a small task force to advise us in the event we need to make this call ourselves. I'd like to include a couple of parent voices on this task force, especially if the parent is a public health or medical professional. If you'd be willing to help with this, please let me know asap. I don't anticipate an in-person meeting for this task force. We will confer via conference call and reply all emails.
Finally, I see a couple important messages in most of the advice from experts:
Don't panic!
Wash your hands often and cough into your sleeve!
For now, that is the basic advice we are following, too. As always the school will be well cleaned each night and thoroughly cleaned at the end of each week. If you can do your part by taking home linens and water bottles for thorough cleaning as often as possible, that would be great.
Let's cross our fingers that the plans our task force puts in place will never have to be followed!
Enjoy your weekend - it's going to be a bit chilly but beautiful!
With warm regards,
Beth

Firecrown Hummingbirds
This week the Firecrown Hummingbirds learned what it means to research! We found out researching means you ask questions to learn more about places, people, and things! One friend even mentioned "it's like being a detective!" So the hummingbirds dug in deep to research about African-American inventors, leaders, and innovators! We learned more about Mae Jemison, and did research on Lonnie Johnson, and Dr. Valerie L. Thomas. The kiddos worked on their art skills by drawing portraits, and worked on their fine motor skills by practicing writing the names of the people they researched. We can't wait to do more research next week! Have a wonderful weekend! XO The Firecrown Hummingbirds
