causes of the Civil war
There is 5 causes of the Civil War.
1 is Economic differences.
South view: machine was able to reduce the time it took to separate seeds from the cotton.
Thus, the southern economy became a one crop economy, depending on cotton and therefore on slavery.
North view: the northern economy was based more on industry than agriculture.
In fact, the northern industries were purchasing the raw cotton and turning it into finished goods.
2 is States vs. Federal right.
South-States' right- idea thatstates have the right to limit the power of the federal government.(more power to the states.)
North-Federal right-federal government should have more control over the rights of the states.(more power to the national government.)
3 is Slavery
Most Northerners opposed slavery. They felt that it was immoral. Others did not wast to have to cpmpete for wages against unpaid slaves.
In the South, people feared that the loss of slavery would bankrupt the South. They had a economic dependency on it.
4 is tariffs
North-wanted high tax on foreign goods-North made their own goods.
South-wanted a lower tax on foreign goods-South bought goods overseas insteda of from the North...cheaper to buy goods by sea.
5 is Cultural differences
North- Industry, more educated.
South-Farmers, less educated.

North: Leadership Abraham Lincoln.

More railreads
more population who can go to war.
South: outstanding Generals.
strong military tradition.
skilled with gun.
cotton could be exchanged weapon.

North:walk mountains.
Lots land.
South:paper $ low in value.
low #'s men under leader.

In North, there was 23 states, and there was 22 million people.
but, In South, there was only 11states and there was only 9 million people(3.5 million people was slaves).
21 million army 178,000 blacks who tought in North.
600,000-1.5 million army in South(estimated).
237 named battles were fought in Civil War and The American Civil War was to prove one of the most ferocious wars ever fought.
