Graduation Information 2021

West High School Presents the Class of 2021 Commencement

Xtream Arena Coralville, IA

Sunday June 6, 2021 1:00PM

Each graduating senior will receive four (4) tickets and two (2) parking passes to graduation. If you are in need of more than two (2) parking passes, please let us know when you pick up your tickets.

There are two options for picking up tickets. Students or parents who pick up tickets must show an ID. Students/parents may only pick up tickets for their own use; you may not pick up tickets for a friend.

  • The week of May 24th - 28th, seniors can pick up tickets during their lunch period in the foyer outside the Main Gym.

  • Drive-up ticket distribution will happen on Wednesday, June 2nd from 12:30-2:00pm in the front driveway, outside the Main Gym school entrance.

Seniors’ last day of school is Thursday, June 3rd. A mandatory graduation rehearsal for seniors participating in the ceremony will be on Friday, June 4th from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Xtream Arena. Parking passes are valid for the South Parking Lot: 300 E. 9th St. (south of the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center)

We understand that not all students and families will wish to participate in the commencement ceremony in person. Seniors are asked to fill out this Google Form as soon as possible to indicate whether they will attend the ceremony or not. If you have already completed this form, you do need to respond again. We will contact students who are not participating in the ceremony about how to collect their diplomas.

Please note that seniors must meet the ICCSD’s graduation requirements in order to receive their diplomas. Counselors will communicate with any seniors, and their parents, who do not currently meet these requirements.

The Iowa City Community School District remains committed to our COVID-19 health and safety practices. The well-being of our students, staff, and families is our first priority. We are following Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidelines to ensure we can safely, effectively, and consistently provide access to learning and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The District’s measures are meant to keep our community safe, but they are only fully effective if we are diligent and responsible in adhering to them. For further information on our COVID-19 safety protocols, please visit www.IowaCitySchools.org/HealthandSafety.

The yearbooks are coming, so save the date for distribution!

In-person and online students can pick up yearbooks on Thursday, May 27 during all lunches (11:35-1 p.m.) in the hallway outside the main gym.

Students who pre-purchased books will be able to pick up their books at this time. Students can still pre-purchase a book at jostens.com through May 20. There will be a limited amount of yearbooks available for purchase at distribution, as well.

There will also be a book signing station and some free photos — if you are in them, feel free to take the photo!

We are also offering a drive-by pick-up outside of West High on Wednesday, June 2 from 12:30-2 p.m.

If you are unable to attend either of these, students can pick up a yearbook between 8:35 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 28-June 11 in the newsroom (room 115) on the main floor.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any yearbook staff member or the adviser, Sara Whittaker at Whittaker.Sarajane@iowacityschools.org.

The yearbook staff is so excited for you to see what we spent all year creating!

We still have many many photos for students to pick up in the main office. If your student ordered pictures from Halverson, please pick them up.

Graduating seniors: If you have not picked up your cap and gown, please do so in the main office anytime.
