PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, October 21st
A huge THANK YOU to everyone for taking the time to read the traffic letter and adhering to the traffic procedures - especially as we had a few snow flurries this week! Our wonderful traffic team volunteers have been grateful to everyone following the rules and helping to keep the traffic flowing, and most importantly, keep our students safe.
I hope you enjoyed some extra time with your children and I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
Have a great weekend!
Ellie Chin
RULER
We are excited to be sharing the RULER approach to social and emotional learning with our students! Our staff knows and practices the skills of emotional intelligence and is prepared to teach and model these emotional intelligence skills.
We will be infusing RULER into all parts of our school by leading school-wide activities, integrating conversations about emotions into evening events, and offering further opportunities for families to be involved.
In the classroom, teachers have been integrating routines that build emotional awareness, such as creating a Class Charter and checking in on the Mood Meter. Teachers will also lead lessons that help students understand emotion concepts such as community building, self-awareness, and conflict resolution. Your child’s teacher will be providing more information about what RULER looks like in their classroom.
We are eager to see your children plotting themselves on the Mood Meter which helps them identify how they are feeling. Students will bring home activities related to the RULER skills and tools to do together. Your involvement is very valuable in reinforcing their learning.
Over the course of the year, I will be providing ongoing communication to you about RULER through our Patton Post. We hope that you will join us at our upcoming RULER Parent Night if you are interested in learning more.
RULER Parent Night
- Date: Tuesday, November 29, 2022
- Time: 7:00 PM (Please stay for the PTA meeting at 7:30 PM)
- Location: Patton Commons
Presented by our Patton RULER Implementation Team
I’m looking forward to hearing how you and your children are feeling this year and how we can support one another in creating a positive and emotionally safe school climate in which everyone may flourish.
HURRICANE IAN - PAJAMA DAY FUNDRAISER
The Patton Student Council is very proud to announce that our community has raised $1077.54 to go towards victims of Hurricane Ian. Our donation will go to the American Red Cross. The generosity of the Patton Community never fails to impress us. Thank you for helping to make this project a success.

4th & 5th GRADE HOMEWORK CLUB
Have your 4th or 5th grader stay after school on (most) Tuesdays in room 255!
Mr. Morkert will provide a quiet space where kids can work on assignments, read,
or get extra help. If interested, you must sign up using the link below (space is limited to 12). Please be sure to include your child's name when you sign them up and note whether you will pick up your child or if they can walk home. CAP kids welcome as well. Please contact Mr. Morkert for any questions (tmorkert@sd25.org).
HALLOWEEN
Rest assured the room moms are working on "giving everyone PUMPKIN to talk about" with their class party plans and we just cannot wait to have a "fa-BOO-lous" Patton Halloween!
This information below is repeated from last week. Please do remember to fill out the form provided to let us know if your child will be going home or staying at school for lunch on that day!
Parade & Parties
The parade will begin on the blacktop around 1:45 followed by class parties which will be from 2:15pm - 3:15pm. We will send out a Halloween communication email that will include a map of the parade route for any families interested in finding a spot along the route to watch and see the parade. Please note that the parade will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
Costumes
We always look forward to the fun and creative costumes our students come up with each Halloween. We ask for your partnership in choosing appropriate costumes for school that do not have weapons, blood, gore, or violent themes. In the interest of safety, please be sure your child is able to walk and sit comfortably in his/her costume and is able to see where he/she is walking.
Lunch
Lunch/Recess is from 12:10 p.m. – 1:10 p.m. For those families who plan to pick up their child for lunch and to change into costumes, please plan to follow the typical 3:35 pick up lane procedure. Our traffic team volunteers will assist us in having a smooth dismissal. Students should return to Patton by 1:10 and line up on the blacktop in their class lines. We will enter the building at 1:10. For students staying at school, please be sure that they can change into their costumes independently without adult assistance.
ALL FAMILIES - Please fill out this form to let us know if your child will be staying at school for lunch or if they will be going home. Anybody who has not submitted the form by 2pm on FRIDAY 29th OCTOBER will either have to stay at school for lunch or will need to be physically signed out by parents on the day. We strongly encourage you to fill out the form ahead of time to ensure a quick pickup/drop off of your child should you choose to take them home.
AM Kindergarten Parents ONLY
AM Kindergarten students will wear their costumes to school in the morning. Parents should pick students up on Patton Avenue at 11:50. We anticipate many 1st through 5th-grade children going home for lunch, so the typical pick-up process for AM kindergarten will be disrupted on Halloween. Please plan to pick up your kindergartener on Patton Avenue instead of on the blacktop. If you are picking up older siblings to go home for lunch, you can pull into the main parking lot and prepare to drive through the pick-up line as those students will be dismissed at 12:10.
PM Kindergarten Parents ONLY
First through fifth graders who go home for lunch will return at 1:10. Please make certain you do not park your car in the drop-off lane as we will have a large volume of cars passing through as students are dropped off for the afternoon. PM Kindergarten students should come to school in their costumes and line up at the front door as they always do.
PACK THE PIGGIES IS BACK!
Are you ready to Pack the Piggy, Patton? The Arlington Heights Council of PTA’s (AHC-PTA) funds $10k in scholarships each year for K-8 students, as well as D214 graduating seniors. This October, the AHC-PTA will be initiating it’s second annual “Pack the Piggies” FUN-raiser across the district to raise money for these scholarships.
The contest begins October 24th and goes through October 28th, five days to pack our piggy and reach our goal! Patton's school goal is to raise $1k, with a district goal of $9k. If we reach our district goal, there will be a prize. Students will have the opportunity to vote on the prize. Will Mrs. Chin and Mrs. Vignocchi be slimed? Will we have an all school dance party assembly? Will Mrs. Chin and Mrs. Vignocchi kiss a pig? Will they get silly stringed? We will see what our Patton Panthers choose! To help reach our goal, you can bring in coins, cash, or checks (made out to the AHC-PTA) and pack Patton's piggy! Let’s have some fun for a great cause!
Recognize a Staff Member - Give a Pat on the Back to a Patton Staff Member
Patton teachers and staff work so hard to support our students on a daily basis. We invite you to fill out this google form if you would like to recognize a staff member or a team for their hard work. We will pass on the good news to them. Thank you in advance for sending an encouraging word as we know it will mean so much to our staff. Staff who have received recognition have been so appreciative. It is such a wonderful way to brighten their day!
