In Case You Missed It:
The McBurnetts were so sweet to us all on Valentine's Day. Team Leaders need to get the thank you notes turned into me by Monday, so I can get these sent to Heather.
Last week was Love the Bus week and we certainly LOVE our bus drivers at SLMS! Our bus drivers were pampered with goodies throughout the week, thank you notes, and lunch provided by our PTSO on Friday. I cannot express how grateful I am for our regular bus drivers but also our substitute drivers which remain flexible each morning and afternoon to fill in as needed. I want to shout out to our teacher drivers, Christina Reed, Tommy Harrington, and Brianna Simmons for volunteering to sub on buses last week after we didn't have enough drivers to get kids to and from school.
Congratulations to Katherine Fanning and husband Matt. They are expecting their first "human" child in August.
I'm beginning to plan out our AVID Peer Observations. This was something that our AVID site team thought was the next step for us as a teaching and learning center. Vincent went to Department Team meetings to get feedback. We wanted to get though our AVID Showcase before beginning this.
- Teachers will volunteer to showcase a certain strategy.
- A calendar will be shared and teachers will sign up.
- Teachers will use an hour of their planning period to visit a classroom highlighting a strategy.
- Teacher will reflect on the strategy and learning (questions will be supplied). Reflections will be turned in within the window to receive credit.
More information will be coming out soon...
SLMS NC State Team took used the tragedy in Florida last week as a teachable moment. Social Studies teacher, Sara Yoder used this a time to discuss our procedures for lock down drills with her kids. She empowered the students with knowledge of what to do in such an emergency throughout the school They watched the video that we watched about lockdown procedures and practiced crawling out the window, hiding, etc. She shared her plans with all So Studies teachers in our building. I hope many are able to work this into their plans. Everyone needs to encourage students to take all threats of violence seriously. Many seem numb to threats and do not report because, "They were just kidding." or "He/she didn't mean it."or "We were just joking around." We take every threat seriously here at SanLee.
