Groovy in 4th

Mrs. Tweten's Class Room 606

Learning to the Max! 4/11 - 4/25

Next week is minimum days ALL week. There will be NO School on Friday! Every student in our class should be prepared to give their student led conference at home by the end of next week. Please make sure to check the Blog-Student Resources for more information and to fill out the parent form about the conference. Parents that requested personal teacher led conferences will have those in addition to the student-led conferences at a time to be determined. As the student may have already told you, my grandmother passed away. I am leaving Saturday to fly to Canada and attend the Funeral. I will be back on the 24th. I've left the kiddos in good hands with Ms. Jordan. She's subbed for me several times before and I trust things will go smoothly. She will be attending the field trip to the Living Desert with the class. HOMEWORK-This has been a learning curve for everyone. Including me :) It's just another way to offer differentiated learning for the kids, but again I stress to you that it's not mandatory. ALL students have the opportunity to complete a regular homework packet if they choose. They are made available each week. Some of the online homework IS REQUIRED even if students choose the paper homework packet. AR reading logs can ONLY be completed at school!

During the next 2 weeks, we'll be learning about the following:

*Story-Cliffhanger and Antarctic Journey

*Close Reading and Fluency Practice

Spelling Words-Greek Word Parts/Words with Latin Roots

Skills-Setting, Plot, Story Structure, Main Idea, Details

*We will continue to work collaboratively with Desert Ridge Academy - Mrs. Amidei's students will be our writing tutors. Using Google Docs each student will have a real-time tutor assisting them in the development and editing process. I plan on blogging about it on my class blog at This will most likely be in a few weeks at the culmination of our writing project.

We're not finished with fractions, but yet we are. We'll continue to work on fraction skills as practice, but we're moving on to POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE NUMBERS and Graphing

Social Studies -

*Missions-We've completed our mission reports and are reading, 'By the Great Horn Spoon! Written by Sid Fleischman. It's a gold rush adventure! This ties in very well with our unit on the Early History of California.

We're continuing our study of rocks and minerals.

GENIUS DAY is coming! Be on the look out for the date!!! You are invited to attend the presentation of your child's Genius Project. I'm hoping for a date around the last week of school. I will be having the kids start finalizing their projects for presenting over the next several weeks. It's been a fun process and even when they've presented it is something they can continue to explore.
