The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Carleton's Loss and Retirement's Gain
After next Friday, there will be two staff members from Carleton that will no longer "need" to set the morning alarm clock, pick out the business casual clothes, or fight morning rush hour. They are Danita Jones and Karen Riccinto. They will be retiring with more than 60 years of combined service in the public and private school systems.
Ms. Jones has been an aide in our MiCi program for many years and has decided to retire mid-year for more time out of the classroom and enjoying life to the fullest. She had a career in the private sector previous to joining WCS and will enjoy time away from the "daily grind." However, she hopes to be able to sub in the future but can choose when and when not to work.
Ms. Riccinto has taught in WCS, DPS, and private schools for roughly 3 decades and will be able to spend more time with her family, including her grandchildren in retirement. She has been our spine, heartbeat, and calm presence in MiCi for many years and we will miss her strong leadership and guidance with our students and staff. She has taken other teachers under her wing to mentor and shape them as educators, and for this, I have confidence that we will be in great hands moving forward.
At this time, we do not know Ms. Jones' replacement but hope to have someone in place soon after break. We hired a teacher by the name of Mr. Kisskalt for Ms. Riccinto's position and he will begin his career with WCS next Monday. Be kind and welcoming to both new staff members when you meet them and welcome them to the Carleton family.
Lastly, we would like to thank Mr. Wolf for his time at Carleton Middle School working with the band students and Ms. Lantto. He is finishing his pre-student teaching and will be headed to Anchor Bay High School next semester before he graduates from Wayne State University. We wish him well as he finishes his undergraduate degree. We will also have two student teachers next semester. Ms. Davis will be working with Ms. Darling and Mr. Comer will be working with Ms. Karbel. Good luck and welcome to Carleton!

Thank you
Whenever you add something like this to the school day, there is often an increased workload for our adults. I'd like to thank them here for their added efforts. Thank you to Kevin Lane, our head custodian, for being receptive to this idea and pulling the retractable door open everyday for lunches and closing it before the next gym class occurs. Thank you to Mr. Rocheleau, who preps for open gym every day by making sure we have the basketball hoops down, volleyball nets up, and proper equipment available for students to use. Lastly, we appreciate Ms. Jackson, Ms. Gill, and Ms. Blankenship for supervising students, making sure they are engaged in proper activities, and going without one added body in the cafeteria. We are happy to provide this added bonus and physical outlet for our students.
