MCAT Tutorial - Saturday 10 Sept from 10am to 1pm
The Mathematics Department will be running a tutorial for students in 11MAT and 11MAA.
Mrs Carter will be sending out further details at the start of next week, and students will need to register their intention to attend.
This is to help support students for the External MCAT assessment on Thursday 15 September
Further Workshops for NCEA Literacy and Numeracy
We are offering Further Assessment Opportunities for a limited number of NCEA English and Mathematics standards after the practice exams (Monday 26th September, Tuesday 27th September and Thursday 29th September).
The need for some Further Assessment Opportunities has arisen because of the disrupted year, with both staff and student absences impacting student achievement. Details of the specific standards offered will be published next week.
While all students are able to undertake a Further Assessment Opportunity if the standard is offered in their course, the length of time available for workshops means that the workshops will focus on the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve the standard.
Some students (and their parents/caregivers) will receive a personal invitation to the workshops because not achieving these particular standard/s will impact their capacity to achieve their NCEA.
Other students who wish to attend a Further Assessment Opportunity will need to register their name and the standard/s by contacting Mr Clarke (j.clarke@rosehillcollege.school.nz). These students should be aware that attending a workshop may disrupt learning and revision toward external achievement standards in other courses because students will miss regular classes to attend these workshops.
Study / Revision Advice
1. Register on the NZQA site a Learner Login to access standards, past papers, and sample answers.
2. Know from the Student Portal or Tutor Group Teacher what credits have been gained and what are still to obtain.
3. Complete all internals by the end of this Term.
4. Aim for 14 credits per subject including the externals.
5. Take advantage of subject tutorials and further opportunities to gain credits.
6. Know what is in the exam.
7. Have a study timetable - 3 x 30 minute sessions per day.
8. Study little chunks repeated often, in quiet.
9. Phones are a distraction - parents should have them during study time.
Recap: Our International Students meet Jacinda Ardern
On Friday 2nd September, two of our new international students attended the Education New Zealand and Vice Chancellor welcome at the University of Auckland.
It was very special for the students as they got to meet the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern. She was so friendly and chatted with them about school.
Theana and Shohtaroh both showed great pride in being Rosehill College students at this event.

Recap: Te Roopu Āwhina Whānau Hui
Kia Ora e te whānau,
Last Wednesday night Te Roopu Āwhina had their first whānau hui in a long time. It’s a group of parents that have huge aspirations for their Māori tamariki.
Such a huge turnout as whānau introduced themselves and met our new Principal.
Please see Whaea Pare Matthews if you would like to come along.
Our next hui will be held on Wednesday September 21st in the Māori department at 6.30pm, please consider joining.
Recap: Tautoko te rā daffodil - Friday 26th August
Daffodil Day was a great success last Friday 26th August. Our Community Committee collected generous donations in exchange for a yellow daffodil ribbon for students and staff to wear to show their support to this very worthy cause.
Each House was asked to raise funds in support of the Cancer Society. As a reward for their efforts, this was a competition for house points towards the House Cup. Kahurangi was the house who raised the most money, with a total of $322.80 going towards the worthy cause. We achieved this amount through running a raffle, in which the winner won an Amazon Echo. We sold over 150 tickets across the school, and it was awesome to see the Rosehill College community coming together and getting involved. Congratulations to Taye Bruce who was the lucky winner of the raffle!
A huge thank you to Kate Groshinski from Kahurangi for all your hard work and support to Kahurangi’s fundraising. With a very generous staff donation, the collection boxes and our online fundraising page as a school we raised a total of $1656.78 for the New Zealand Cancer Foundation.
Thank you to everyone who supported and donated big and small.
Day of fun 2022
Save the date because the funnest time of year is almost here.
Funlab's Day of Fun is rolling 'round again on Tuesday 6 September
For one day only, we're offering 9 holes of mini golf at Holey Moley for ONLY $5. Every dollar from bookings made goes straight to supporting Youthline.
Book now or walk-in on the day and help us put the fun back into fundraising for our friends at Youthline.
Youth mental health initiatives are very close to Funlab's heart. Day of Fun allows people to come together in our venues, have a bit of fun and spend some time with friends.
Youthline is here to support all young people - this includes young people who are struggling (with their mental health or other issues), as well as young people who want to learn, grow and give back to their community. Funlab knows there's great value in young people coming together to do something active to support a healthy mental space.

Well done to our teams which participated at the various Winter Tournament Week events this week. It was great to see a return of these events after the last two years and to see our students representing Rosehill College with pride.
Thank you to the coaches, managers, friends and whānau who supported our students at these events. The students always have a great time and learn a lot from the process of being part of a tournament team and the rigors which are involved in playing in an extended tournament. I know many are already looking forward to Winter Tournament Week 2023.
Good luck to our U70 5B Rugby team who play Green Bay High School in their final tomorrow. This kicks-off at 10.30am at Lloyd Elsmore Park, Field 1. Green Bay is the only team to have recorded a victory against this team this year, so go well boys.
Congratulations to our 1st XV who beat Pukekohe High School in the Plate Final on Saturday. They won 22-14. Well done boys and your management for a great game, and also for great sportsmanship. I received feedback from Papakura High School to say how nice it was for our 1st XV to form a tunnel for the U15 final which preceded the Plate Final.
Nicola Bailey
Director of Sport
Congratulations
Congratulations to Drea Kumar who placed 20th in the Winter AIMs School Archery competition held at Auckland Archery club. This is Drea’s first season competing for school and has shown great improvement and consistency this year.
She also competed in the Archery NZ National Archery Indoor champs in Palmerston North last weekend - her first national competition.
Uniform
Only the sports hoodie ordered through the Sports Office is counted as a school uniform. All other hoodies & jackets, regardless of whether or not they have the school crest, are not school uniform and will be confiscated. Please do not wear these at school, they are for training and game days only.
Results
Badminton
It was Finals week at badminton and some of our teams were competing in the Championship match.
C Grade Mixed Championship Final
Rosehill C Mixed team were up against their first round opponents Papatoetoe who we lost to. The team were excited but very nervous as they had been working so hard all season. After a pep talk from Mr Allan about enjoying the day, playing with a smile and fighting for every point they were ready to go.
In the singles, we started slowly, losing the first match 21-16 before Presley won a tough match 21-18. Papatoetoe struck back with another winner over the most improved player in the team Keyra. Boris stayed calm and composed to take a huge 21-12 win.
We were tied 2 all going into the doubles, Bob and Boris started strong and managed before fatigue set in losing 21-19. This meant we needed to win the final doubles to have any chance. Shresha and Presley were up for the challenge! They were quick out of the blocks racing to a 8-2 lead. But the Minor Premiers weren't giving up and took a 11 to 10 lead at the halfway point. We stayed composed, stayed in the rally and let them make the mistakes to flip the game on its head to take a 18-14 lead. With the match potentially going on count back we had to finish the job. In what was an exciting finish, we managed to tie the match with a 21-16 win.
Now we had to do a points count back! With all the games being so close, we knew it was tight. After double checking, Rosehill won on countback 111 to 110 points to be crowned champions!
Well done to our other Rosehill Mixed side who finished 5th.
C grade girls Champions
Our year 13 girls had a bye this week in their round robin competition. However over the 8 week competition they had done enough to secure the championship. This was a great way for these girls to finish their college badminton careers as they had played together since Year 9. Well done to Chi, Chirjeevin, Binnaa, Megna and Maey.
D grade teams
Both our D grade teams have come a long way in their first year of badminton! All the players have shown commitment in getting better each week, attending training and playing down at the local courts. They represented the school with pride and I know they will be back next year to get even better.
Thank you to all the supporters on Wednesday.
A special shout out to Year 13 Scarlett Go who supported and helped coached players throughout the season.
This was Mr Allan's final year of coaching the Badminton group. If you are interested in helping the badminton team next season, please see Nicola Bailey in the sports office.
