Student's Daily Expectations
Live sessions are for students to ask questions and teachers to clarify certain concepts.
Daily work is for students to receive lessons and work on practice.
This means that work will be required of the student for each day of the week, even if the student does not meet for a live class that day.
So for example: a student in 2nd hour math attends a live session on Monday and Wednesday, and they have work that they need to complete for math Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Here is a weekly checklist you can have your student follow...

Thank you for working with me and your student during this time. I know that it has been difficult. Please remember that I am here to help, please have your student reach out to me if he/she is struggling. I am here to help your child succeed!

Week at a Glance
Office Hours
Students will receive an email from me with a link to join the Zoom meeting. Students should click that link at the start of their office hours in order to meet with me.
It is very important that if a student does not need to meet that day, they either remove their name from the sign up sheet or email me saying they do not need to meet.

Essential Questions:
Is it ever a good idea to challenge the status quo?
Students will need to complete a planning sheet to help them gather ideas and evidence prior to completing the project.
**Please make sure you are watching the video in the Live Lesson folder (inside the weekly folder). This video explains how to complete the project.

Week 5: May 4th- May 9th
We about to finish up our unit in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the last lesson coming up on Monday/Tuesday for this region. After that, I will introduce our final project of the year for Social Studies!
This project focuses on our broad topic for the year, which is understanding and connecting to the 5 themes of Geography. Those themes include Place, Region, Location, Movement, and Human Environment Interaction.
The final project will be in the 80% category, and final grades will be significantly impacted by student performance on this assignment. Although this project reflects the entire year, I am confident that students will have to spend little time reviewing anything from before this term. I will provide a review slide and resources in our live sessions on Thurs/Wed this week, and students can use those to help them through the project.
The assignment as a whole is to create either an online presentation, or video log (vlog) of students finding examples of the 5 themes of Geography in their life or in the world around them. This can be done in one of two ways:
1. Students can find things in their home that represent each theme and take a picture/describe the item and why it relates to the theme.
2. Students can go around the neighborhood, or around town (with parent permission of course) and take pictures or record themselves describing how the item relates to Geography.
I will have an example video and slideshow available soon for some ideas! I will walk students through it more next week, but as always, contact me about any questions or concerns via email, or we can schedule office hours to work on things as well!
Health Update
Dear parents,
Due to the transition to online learning, we will be modifying the topics for our health unit. You probably received a letter with the original topics with your child’s grade card, please disregard those topics for this school year. The following is a list of topics that we will focus on. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.
7th Grade topics-
· 7th grade - "Stranger Danger" - what could happen if you are talking to people you do not know online?
All grades – (Pearson Book)
· Smoking/Vaping
· Substance abuse - alcohol and other drugs
· Skin safety - (I'm dubbing it Summer Safety Tips - we could add why we should drink water, etc.)
· Infectious Diseases - how they spread - why it is important to wash your hands
· Non-infections diseases (just so they see not everything is contagious/to be afraid of.)
Science
Our next chapter is a short section on Health focusing on a healthy lifestyle. Please check out the week at a glance and there is a toxin report assignment due for grading on Thursday.
Thank you so much for all you are doing during this difficult time. Together I am sure we can help your students finish the school year strong. I have been sending missing assignment e-mails, but please check skyward to be aware of what they might be missing. The assignments students are responsible for completing are all in schoology.
Check out the help sessions on Wednesday and Friday at 11:00 am for extra help.
E-mailing also works well :)
Hope you are all staying healthy. If you have questions, please let me know.
