Junior Year Counselor Meeting
Planning for the future!
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers for the Class of 2025:
As we prepare to enter 2024, we invite you to schedule a 1:1 Junior meeting with your counselor to discuss post-secondary plans. We recognize that many parents work during the day and want to provide ample time to schedule a meeting before the end of the school year. Please be aware that counselors will have limited availability from February 5 through March 1 due to Course Selection meetings and during the AP exam testing window, which runs from May 6 through May 17.
Next steps:
- To schedule a junior meeting, please reach out to Ms. Leslie Burke, our Counseling Office Secretary, at BurkeL@lmsd.org to request an appointment. Email is preferred, but you may also call our office at 610-658-3961.
- Meetings will begin in January and should be made when both you and your student are ready to discuss post-secondary plans. Junior meetings should take place within the school day, during a free set, study hall, elective, or whenever possible. We ask that parents and students know your Junior's availability prior to emailing Ms. Burke to schedule an appointment.
- When contacting Ms. Burke, you may also elect to include Dr. Bell, Harriton’s Career and College Access Counselor, either separately or with your student’s counselor. If, for any reason, you cannot attend a meeting during the school day, contact your student’s counselor or Dr. Bell directly.
The Counseling Staff looks forward to helping your student make a smooth transition from high school to higher education, gap year, military, or the working world. After the initial Junior meeting, we will continue to help student navigate the postsecondary process both individually and through our classroom and evening programs. To see the full list of evening programs, you may access the 2023-24 Counseling Department Programming schedule HERE.
Finally, in the Important Junior Documents button below, you will find a Parent Brag Sheet, Junior Questionnaire, and other important documents for your review and reference. Your thoughtful answers on the Parent Brag Sheet and your student’s answers on the Junior Questionnaire will greatly help each counselor write an effective letter of recommendation in preparation for college and other applications. The Brag Sheet and Questionnaire should be typed and returned to the counselor of record by email any time before May 31, 2024.
We look forward to meeting with you over the next few months!
Sincerely,
Harriton High School Counseling Staff:
Ms. Dani London, Juniors A - Dor
Mrs. Barbara Serratore, Juniors Dos - I
