LETS TAKE A LOOK AT THE IDEA OF HIDING
A three-part series of giving tips on the run, hide, fight aspect. This can be done anywhere you are at. The movies, mall, grocery store, convenient store, restaurant, just about anywhere you go.
Hide
Some may not be in a position where there is easy access to an exit. Homeland Security officials recommend if you’re in an active shooter situation and feel you can’t run or escape, find a place to hide — barricade and protect yourself.
· Utilize cover and concealment to shield yourself from harm.
· Barricade entrances, hide behind solid objects and stay quiet.
· Contact 911 if you’re able, and be prepared to fight if your cover is jeopardized.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? I think this employee and his actions speak loud and clear.
10 SAFE & SMART RULES FOR KIDS AND GROWN UPS
RULE 2 - Always CHECK first and get permission before you go anywhere or change plans.
RULE 3 - KNOW your name, address, phone number, and your parent's phone number.
RULE 4 - Remember SAFE grownups DON'T ask kids for help. They go to adults for assistance.
RULE 5 - You do not have to be polite if someone makes you feel SCARED or uncomfortable.
RULE 6 - Your "bathing suit area" is PRIVATE. NO bathing suit area games are allowed.
RULE 7 - If you ever get lost in a public place, FREEZE AND YELL
RULE 8 - DO NOT go anywhere or take anything from someone you do not know.
RULE 9 - ALWAYS listen to your inner voice, especially if you get an "uh-oh" feeling.
RULE 10 - DO NOT keep secrets from your parents. No one should tell a child to keep secrets from their parents, especially if it involves your body.
Always TELL your parents if you are uncomfortable.
Do NOT be AFRAID to SPEAK UP.
TEEN DATING VIOLENCE AWARENESS
NIXON-SMILEY CRISIS COUNSELING CLUSTER
The purpose of the training is for our three ISD's to be able to support each other in the event of a crisis such as a student/staff death or major impactful event on or off campus.
With the training, we were also able to put into place a plan in the event that a crisis does happen. The plan consists of roles, responsibilities, and actions that need to take place. The plan also includes a timeline of things that need to be done to support all staff and students in the event of a crisis.
We would like to thank Paloma Place for their guidance. Paloma Place is a grief counseling service and training facility that partnered with UTSA. This major federal grant was put into place to support families after the Sutherland Springs tragedy. As a district, we are in a better place to serve grieving students and staff. We are also here for our partnering districts who took on this challenge with us.
A special thank you from me to Maggie Gaytan, Ann Pennel, Darby Clardy, and Erica Jones for their hard work and dedication to this co-op.
