Career Center Newsletter - week of June 13
Graduation is just a few days away, but before seniors cross that stage, grab their diploma, and toss that cap. Let us discuss financial aid ONE MORE TIME!
Why do I need financial aid?
- Financial aid consists of:
- Loans (these you pay back)
- Grants (these you do not pay back)
- work study - part of your pay goes towards your training/education expenses
- some scholarships require you complete Financial Aid, like College Bound
- Out of pocket - you or your family contribute
- If you are planning to attend college, community college, trade school or any education/training facility that requires payment and accepts financial aid, financial aid assists in covering the cost.
- What if you think you have the money today, but classes start in the fall and something happened that you no longer have the money to pay. Financial Aid is a great back up plan because you can decide how much or how little to use.
- You are not obligated to use financial aid but if you do not apply by the June 30 deadline, it will not be available for you to use for school year 2022-2023.
- Financial Aid opens every October 1 and closes the following June 30.
- The aid you are awarded is then available for the following school year.
- Example this year's application is for school year 2022-2023, October 2022 application is for school year 2023-2024
- Every year you are in school or training you must apply for financial aid. But each year is easier because most of the information is prefilled out. You are only updating changes such as an address if you moved, your name if it changed, and of course the tax return section.
