From the Office
It is hard to believe that we are deep in December! We have our Book Fair this week and so many other festive events including our Festive Evening concert on December 13th at 6:00pm, door decorating to enjoy the week of Dec 17th, a number of festive inspired dress up days and a holiday sing-song on the 21st! This month is full of observances and through school announcements, class discussions and text/media resources, together with student interest, we will intentionally recognize a variety of important celebrations throughout the year.
Our community is a powerful force - full of generosity and spirit. We have already thoroughly enjoyed the festive Winter Decor event and once again extend a thank you to Chantelle Clarke and Andrea Plumley for their leadership, as well as share thanks with Nina Bishop and Brigid Johnston for their leadership and coordination of our favourite annual "New to You" sale. It is such acts of support that offer our whole community the chance to support opportunities for one another - all of these contributions make us #AwesomeArmour and are examples of our community's strengths.
Regarding the recent announcement of King George students and staff relocating to Lakefield for the 2019/2020 school year, we have received feedback in various forms and from a variety of stakeholders. While many members of the #EastCitySchool community are preparing for this adventure, we know that there are also concerns and questions, and we invite our parents/guardians to access firstname.lastname@example.org to share these queries. Please also keep an eye out for further communication from our Board, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
As you know, we have limited parking at Armour Heights and I'm very appreciative of how respectful everyone has been following our requests for parking lot safety. We have one handicap parking space in front of the parking lot and we greatly appreciate you recognizing that we need to give priority to our buses, and any emergency vehicles along McFarlane. In the interest of everyone’s safety during busy times, we ask that you recognize the priority of our bus area, leaving ample space behind and in front of this area to prevent the need for dangerous manoeuvres by cars and people. As an alternative to parking in these areas, please consider parking on neighbourhood adjacent streets and we kindly ask you to be extra cautious of people and vehicle traffic throughout the school area.
With the winter season now upon us, there is a subsequent increase in the amount of mud, dirt, snow and moisture that is tracked into the school. In order to keep the classrooms clean and safe, we ask that all children have a pair of indoor shoes. These may be hard-soled slippers if you wish. On behalf of our head custodian, Mr. Robbins, we thank you in advance for your assistance with helping to keep our school clean and safe.
Let's keep in touch,
Ms. McIlmoyle Parsons

Scholastic Book Fair - this Week!
Students will be visiting the Book Fair during their regularly scheduled library periods between Dec 12 - 14 and the Book Fair is scheduled to be open just prior to and after the Festive Evening showcase on Dec 13th if you have a purchase you'd like to make during that time.
Thank you for your support of this terrific event and should you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Teacher Librarian, Ms. Vowles through our school office.
"Share the Warmth" event continues
We are very fortunate to have a variety of donated children's winter apparel at our school. We share these donations with students as the need arises at school through the winter. At the turn of the season this year, we wanted to reach out to our community to let you know several gently used items are available should your child be in need of a new coat, snow pants or boots. This week we will continue to have a "Share the Warmth" table in the front lobby of the school and we encourage families in our community to come by, try on items and feel free to take needed items home to stay warm over the coming winter. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
Inclement Weather & Hot Lunch Information
Should buses be cancelled to Armour Heights on a Pizza Day, the pizza will be provided on the following day. Please note that should your child be absent on any regular pizza lunch day, you may call the school and request to pick up your child’s lunch. Lunches cannot be held over at the school due to health reasons.
